The June issue of Shooting Times has an article on the new 28 Gauge Benelli Legacy Auto Loading Shotgun.

The author was very pleased with how the new 28 gauge Benelli looked ,felt and handled.

Anyone thinking about getting one of these new 28 gauge shotguns?

I am most definitely interested in one of these guns. While the Legacy is nice what I'd be more interested in is the Raffaello because of its blued receiver. But a Legacy or Rafaello with 26" barrels is VERY high on my want list. Here's a link to a review on the Rafaello.

The new 28 gauge Benelli shotguns look very interesting.They are light which I like but I understand they are going to be quite expensive.About twice as much as a 28 gauge Franchi 48 AL.

The shotguns only hold 3 shells.One in the chamber and two in the magazine.Most auto loaders hold five or six shells.

From what I understand the Raffaello is available in Europe and the Lagacy in North America.

The 20 gauge Legacy is north of $2,000 and it won't come as a surprise if the 28 gauge is higher still. The last Franchi Deluxe in 28 gauge that I saw was around $1,500. The Franchi is a good gun but I've never liked the long recoil action.

There are a few things I want to find out before putting my credit card and PAL on the counter. The first is the durability of the carbon fibre rib. I've accidentally put a dent in a steel rib and am wondering how the composite rib will stand up in actual field use.

The other concern is Benelli trigger pulls. I've never owned a Benelli primarily because of the typically awful triggers.

Also is there any word if the 28 gauge is on a scaled frame or built on a 20 gauge? The scaled frame isn't a deal breaker for me but it is a nice feature.

The two-shot magazine doesn't worry me. In Ontario we are limited to three shots maximum for hunting and no more than two on most clay courses.

I asked a local dealer about the availability of the 28 gauge Legacy and apparently Stoeger told him it won't be until mid-summer.
 
To the best of my knowledge the 28 gauge Benelli Legacy is built on its own sized frame.

I know that for waterfowl a shotgun can only use three shells.Are you not allowed in Ontario to hunt with a full magazine for upland game?

Good questons about the carbon fibre rib.I have never owned a Benelli and only know one person who has one.They do however look nice and I like a light weight 28 gauge shotgun.

I did not realize that the price had increased so much for the 28 gauge Franchi 48 AL shotguns.The last ones I saw a price on for the standard model were running around the $900.00 mark.

I have two 28 gauge Franchi 48 AL shotguns and like mine very much.Very light and dependable 28 gauge auto loaders.
 
It's 2+1 in Ontario for everything including shotgun-only deer hunting. :(

The Franchi I saw was the Deluxe model with a spectacular piece of wood and was being sold by a dealer in Toronto who never undercharged for anything.

I have a Benelli Ultralight and I would be pretty certain that it has the same carbon fibre rib as the 28ga Legacy. I can say that it is very durable and has withstood many bumps, sticks, twigs and limbs going through the woods. I wouldn't be concerned about its durability speaking from experience.
