Have heard that Benelli will market a 28 gauge auto loading shotgun in North America next year.It is my understanding that the shotgun is to be available in Europe this year.

It is also my understanding that Europe got the 28 gauge first while North America got the Vinci first. Sounds like the short end of the stick for us.

Now if only Beretta would produce the 391 in 28 gauge.

Nothing wrong with the 16 gauge at all.Its just that the 12 gauge and now the 3 inch 20 gauge are so close to it that the 16 gauge loses out in the mix.

There is a site that deals with the 16 gauge called the 16 Gauge Society. If you are a 16 gauge fan you should check it out.

I agree with you Claybuster,I too think we got the short end of the stick.

A 28 gauge Beretta Model 391 would be a great shotgun.Have heard rumors about one from time to time but as of yet no 28 gauge 391.

Could somebody explain what's wrong with 16ga?
It's quite popular in Europe, but rarely seen in North America
In Germany it's popular because the Germans being a hearty people determined that such a dainty gauge deserved having a rifle barrel welded underneath. This is how drillings were developed.

In France it's popular because they are an effete and delicate people and the 12 gauge is too much for them. Also popular in France are smelly cheeses, over-priced wine, Jerry Lewis and Euro Disney so the 16 gauge fits right in. Also given the French tendency toward surrendering, dropping a 16 gauge on the ground is less traumatic than doing the same with a nice 12 gauge.

It only seems popular in Belgium where they make guns to sell to the French. See above.

In Spain where they also make guns ordering a 16 gauge is regarded by the Basques as akin to a man wearing ladies undergarments. They'll make a 16 gauge for a buyer but won't be seen in public with him.

In England, the 16 gauge is only found in the hands of lesser members of the royal family whose blood lines can be traced to France or shooters who had one too many canings in their all-male private school and started to enjoy them.

Now in North America there is a small group of 16 gauge fans who claim their gun carries like a 20 and hits like a 12 and patterns better. It really doesn't but these are better reasons that admitting they are in touch with their inner cheese-eating surrender monkey, look dashing in a beret and can be occasionally seen slipping into the lingerie section of Walmart looking for something in their size.

Other than that there's nothing wrong with the 16 gauge. ;)

I take all this with a grain of salt..:) After all it is coming from someone that shoots a 28 ghey.

How about setting up a round of Sporting Clay between the two of you - 16 and 28 shall be used .... I could be the third participant if you would allow :)

Needless to say, the usual banter towards the individual during his turn may be permissible in an attempt to throw him of his stride :D

I'd like to get into this one, but I'm out here in Alberta, and the only 16 h=gauge Ii own is a Remington Damascus barrelled job.
That means I'd be shooting with Claybuster.
Do we have to spot those shooting a 16 a few birds?:D

16 & 28 ---- Hell, the best two gauges going!!!!!!:):):):):)
28ga carries like 28 & hits better than a 20 -- simple ballistics.
