At a gun show yesterday I was looking at a Churchill Monarch O/U shotgun. The shotgun was in great condition with a straight grip and fixed chokes. The shotgun was chambered for 28 gauge 3 inch shells.

Does anyone have any information on these shotguns.

The shotgun is a bit old but not sure how old.Since it is chambered for 28 gauge 3 inch shells the new Fiocchi 3 inch 28 gauge shells would work in this shotgun.THe Fiocchi site states that the Tundra shot used in the 28 gauge 3 inch shells are safe for any shotgun even those made only for lead.

If memory serves, Churchill Monarchs (imported by Kassnar? during 80s) were built in several countries - Spain, Japan, Italy? too I think.

What intrigues me is the fact that the O/U in question is chambered for 3in cartridges in view of the fact that not many 28ga had 3in capability around the time period that particular brand was being offered. Time for me to go further back into the history of the 28ga.

Bottomline, its a nice find if everything falls into place for you.

Thanks for the information,Ashan.I have seen a few 28 gauge shotguns chambered for 3 inch shells over the years.Very few.Funny part is until this year (Fiocchi) I have not known of anyone making a 3 inch 28 gauge shell.

The longest 28 gauge shells I have seen are 2 7/8 inch.I have two boxes of them plus a shotgun that is chambered for 2 7/8 inches.

Ashan sometime ago you told me of a place that haed 28 gauge Bismuth shells.Do you know if they still have them or not?

Thanks for the reply,Ahsan.Kind of figured they would be gone by now.Did you get many boxes?

10 boxes of #4/#6 in 5/8oz loads for the occasional jump shoots.

I skipped the 7.5s as I already had plenty of shells in Win AAHS 3/4oz....the Bismuths were all gone by the time I went back to get those :p.

I have a large number of Bismuth 28 gauge that I have handloaded for ducks. Here of late I have been thinking I would pick up some more factory 28 gauge Bismuth to use in my older shotguns in the uplands if lead is ever banned for use over land.

Have you tried any of the new factory steel Winchester 28 gauge loads?I have four boxes but have not tried them out yet.
