Alright guys I need a little help.

I've decided I need a new shotgun before next fall and I've also decided it'll be in 28 gauge. Love the cartridge but the old single shot Remington of my moms that I used for years is in bad shape and has been retired for now. One of these days I may spruce it up a bit but I digress.

What I've found in the 28 gauge pump category are these 2:

http://www.ithacagun.com/28gauge.html (the cheaper one at the bottom of the page)

But I've also found this:

Now I've used pumps and single shots my whole life so I've been leaning towards the pump. Also, I think it's damn near impossible to find the CZ in Canada and I guess I could import one from the states. That requires more time and money though. Also, I prefer to use full chokes so I would have to order a second one from god knows where to have the gun in a full/full configuration.

So if you were in my shoes what would you do? Or if you know of any other new 28 gauges that you think I'd like to see, please let me know. I know Weatherby makes a semi and there are used CILs and such but I don't want to go that route.

Thanks.

I have a real soft spot for the 28ga and as a result over the years have added quite a few pump models to my collection.
For me if I was just to have one it would be a remington wingmaster with choke tubes with the ithaca 37 second
Others I have in pump style 28ga are remington express, winchester model 12, browning model 12. browning bps, akkar 300??, high standard 28 flight king.
Have a cz double also but would keep the wingmaster over it in a heart beat
Cheers

I used a CZ Mini Bobwhite for quite a while, and it is now being shot by by a CGN member in B.C. I LOVED that gun!
Light, tough chromed barrels, black chrome barrel finish, double triggers, and most inportant, shot exactly where you were looking !
Good gun for the money it costs.

All 28 gauge pump and autoloading shotguns are nice.

In a pump gun my favourite is the 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37.Since purchasing this shotgun in 2009 it has been the only 28 gauge that I have used in the uplands.Have used the 28 gauge Winchester Model 12,Browning Model 12,Browning BPS,Remington Model 870 Wingmaster and Remington Model 870 Express in the field. For myself the 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37 tops them all.

I agree with the Catt.......
This gal is light, feels good and sweet to carry.
What's not to like?

I have an old Savage 220 single shot in 28ga and love it dearly. That being said, I've missed opportunities to shoot a second grouse with that gun, so I bought a BPS 28 this fall. Didn't get it out much, but it is an excellent 28ga pump.

Of the choices you listed, I would go with the Ithaca. As upland hunting season doesn't open for quite a few months, I would firstly shop the used market for a Remington 870 Wingmaster with chokes or even the old 870 skeet with fixed choke. I wouldn't turn away from the Remington 1100 or Franchi 48AL semi-autos either, both are awesome shotguns in the field and the Franchi only weighs about 6lbs.

I own a browning bps pumps in 20ga,28ga and 410. All three are 26" barrels and feel almost the same to shoot. I have shot a buddy's browning model 12 in 28 ga and and shot a 25 in skeet my first time shooting it. It was a grade 5 and cost 3 times as much as my bps which i also shot a 25.I have a wingmaster in 16ga which I really like as well. For the money , the best pic would be the BPS.

Wholesale has a nice 28g. 870 (not an express) ,been on the shelf for over a year@ $835.00. Asked them if they would entertain an offer as it has been there so long ,no they do not do that ,ok, bought a 28 model 12 on here for same price, sorry guys ,oh that was 4 months ago its still there ,love my .28 as well

There is only one problem I have with my ithaca 28ga. It was the grand plus it cost me to purchase it which I think is nuts for a small bore pump gun of this grade. Why did I buy it simple I didnot have one to complete a ithaca 37 set of shotguns plus it was 28 ga I was missing at the time

I had the BPS and was very happy with it but I sold it when I got a wingmaster. I like the fact that there are more Remington parts available should I ever need them and my wife liked the engraving on the 870. You should be happy with either. I looked at the Akkar some one mentioned and wasn;t that impressed with the fit and finish your mileage may very good luck with your search

The 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37 for myself is the one I would go with. For myself there is just something special about the way the shotgun handles and feels. It is a bit more to purchase, but it is all steel construction and uses an old design that has proved itself in the field since 1937.At present the Model 37 is the oldest pump shotgun design still being manufactured.

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems people are just as divided on this one as I am. One day i'll want the CZ, the next the browning, the next, Ithaca. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there are a few choices available on the market. But maybe i'll give it a few months of thinking about this before buying. I use a Wingmaster in 16 gauge now so I'm pretty familiar with that type of set up. Maybe i'll go that route. Time will tell.
