I am thinking about rebaraling my 30-06 to a 280 AI. Anyone have any good info on the AI. I live out on the Queen Charlotte Islands BC. I hunt a lot of blacktail , and also do a lot of stone sheep hunting. First hand experiance on this cartridge would be much apreiciated. Thanks Chris .

Never owned one, but it's one of the most popular wildcats out there- So popular that it is now a factory loaded cartridge.

You will get velocities close to 7mm RM factory ammo.

Virtually everyone I know who has one, likes it.

Feeding is a function of the rifle. If the rifle is properly built, it will feed fine.

although I wouldn't bother rechambering my 280, the 280AI does give some advantages - less case trimming and an extra 100 fps

Love the caliber. Mimicks 7Rem Mag for performance but less recoil.
Incredibly accurate. I have had no issues with feeding in the 1s I have owned or built either on 700 or Sako actions.
Best part is brass life is phenominal, never trimmed brass, match brass is readily available in the AI configuration from Nosler.
Whats not to like?

You reloading? Where/how do you get ammo? Look into a reliable ammo supply first.
"...now a factory loaded cartridge..." Yep. By Nosler. Only. MSRP is $57.95US per 20. $58.95US per 50 for brass. Of course, you could fire form regular .280 ammo/brass a whole lot less expensively.

I believe Norma will be loading the 280 Ackley in factory ammo for 2009. I dont know of anywhere in Canada where you can buy factory ammo made by Nosler, just the brass

280 Loads

If the chamber is properly done you can fire-form factory amo and then just reload. Thats what is so popular with Ackley chambers if you run out of reloads you can shoot regular factory ammunition.
