For all you .280 lovers out there, what kinda velocity are you getting with 140gr bullets. Im getting 2850fps with 140 gr ttsx, 53.5gr RL-19. 0.6" groups at 100 meters. Great accuracy but I was hoping to get a little more speed out of a 28inch barrel. Thanks.
 
wow thats got some good velocity, i have some of that powder, i havent tried it yet. As far as the barnes manual the 4350 looked like it would be a slower powder as far as bullet spd.
 
Internet lore indicates the load data for the 280 has been deliberately reduced to accommodate for some rifles made with weaker actions in the 50's. I cant remember all the details, it's out there if you google.
I do know the SAAMI pressures for the 270 is considerably higher than the 280, which makes no sense as they are based on the same 30-06 case.
 
yeah i remember reading about the loads in most manuals being lowered for older guns and for semi autos and pumps
