I just inherited this .280.
Never used it for moose, always been a .308 guy but I want to use the .280 this year to honour the person that left it to me.

I need advise of the best ammo for this rifle for moose pls.

I have taken a fair number of moose and deer with the 280, it is a fine cartridge giving up little to the 7mm Rem mag. I have had 3 failure to expand TTSX so I would never suggest them, a good cup/core will do what you want..If you want a bullet that is boringly 100% reliable go Nosler Partition..

Federal offers in the Premium line 280Remington 150gr Nosler Partitons. That would be a good place to start for a moose load.

Are you a handloader? If not, you might want to consider that in the future. Save your brass. :)

Well CC, welcome abored.
Good luck with your future endeavors wid yer new ker-pow.
Pracktizz makes purrfect.
Photos are awlways appresheatitted.

Had a 7400 in 280, it liked the Remington core lokt 140gr and federal fusion 140gr. I'd get a box of 165's and try them. I would be wanting that minimum for moose. I have a full box of 165gr core lokts I bought when I had my 280 Xbolt. No longer have either so if you happen to be in the Ottawa area let me know if you'd like them.

This.
I bought my first .280 in 1993; it shoots the 150 Partition well and I'd feel well-armed with that load.

I still champion the Nosler Partition as well.
The lead in meat argument is a valid one, but is not one of my concerns.
Your 280 is very well suited for a moose hunt.
Enjoy! Dave.

Concur. Don't know where you are located but I have some of that exact ammo for sale plus others. Northern BC?

Took a large calf elk last year at 188 yards using my .280, shooting 160 Nosler Accubonds. 1 and done instantly. But really, moose aren't overly hard animals to kill, simply very large animals. Any bonded bullet 140gr or larger would work just fine, if it doesn't drop on shot 1, shoot again, then give it some time. If it doesn't drop instantly, but doesnt run, it just needs time to expire.

If there is any factory Hornady ammo available in 154 grain, that is what I would use. It will be accurate and it will perform.
