So I finally ended my search for a 280 Remington in a Sako this weekend. I have been looking for one of these for a long time now, and have one coming in the mail hopefully by the end of the week.
I love reloading and will have to track down some dies for the 280, and then try some new loads out.
What are some tried and true loads that others have come across?

Mine likes 150 gr Nosler ballistic tips and 55gr of R19 powder, or 139 Hornady BTSP with 58.5 gr of H4831SC. I've noticed no difference between magnum and standard powders. Of course my loads may not be safe in your rifle so work up to them carefully.
 
Mine likes 139 Horn flat base & 150 Rem Corelocks.
Another vote for 4831, my rifle likes slow powder, I was never able to get max velocity's out of it useing 4350, your mileage may vary.

Try a search for 280 under reloading, been lots of conversation in the past.
 
IMR 4350. IMR 4831, and H4831 all produce satisfactory results in the .280. I settled on H4831 as it was also a top performer in the .270 and .25-06. Mine liked the 140gr Nosler BT and Hornady 139gr boat-tail. Every rifle has it's preferences for accuracy.
 
I have been using IMR or H 4350 behind 139 gr Hornady Sp's and Barnes 150 gr TSX's with good results. I may revisit try IMR and H4831 as my previous results where less than stellar....
 
My go to rifle is a sako model 75 in .280. It always impresses me with how accurate and comfortable it is to shoot. I have worked up several loads for it and they all shoot sub moa.

Best Bullets: 120 gr hornady sp
120 gr tsx
140 gr accubonds
160 gr partitions (best of the best with several groups under .5")

Best powders : RL19 (for the 120 grainers)
RL 22 (for the partitons)
H4831 (for the Accubonds)

I acquired a 280 this year as well, but was short on time for making up a load before hunting season. today I finally settled on the best I could come up with in the limited time I had.

so I am going with 49.5gr IMR 4350 behind a 140 accubond, cci 200 primer. winchester nickel brass.

this is in a remington mountain rifle
 
My go to loads are 140 gr partition with a liitle over max load of imr 4831 and recently 140 gr tsx with imr 4831 as well. I also use cci 250 magnum primers. The barnes tsx proved to be amazingly accurate out of both my .280 and .280 AI. Great cartridge choice. Best of luck with our new Rifle.
 
I was wondering about magnum primers as well, I have been using the standard large rifle primers because thats what the books say. but I have a large supply of magnum primers and not too many regular ones. wasnt sure if I could use them, been looking around a bit to see if it was acceptable
 
I work up all my loads with magnum primers..being doing so for 15 years now. Never been an issue. I use them in my 280, 280AI,30-06 and 270 wsm.The only large rifle primers i use are in my .243.
 
Well, I made it out to the range this weekend and tried several loads. I am very pleased with the rifle, it seems to shoot most loads very consistently. The only bullet I have tried is the Hornady 139gr, SST, but tried it in front of several powders and charges. The load that seems to be the best so far is 58gr of IMR 4831, with CCI LR Mag primers. Of course this load may be too much for your gun, so if you want to try it work up to it with caution. The velocities are very consistent with an average of 3070fps, and it shoots less than 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I was hoping for a bit more velocity, but I think that is pretty good for a 22 7/16" barrel.
