A buddy of mine has an old .280 Ross. He had some load ammo for it and shot it all off and has now found he cant get anymore for it. Does anyone have any info on finding some loading data for it and maybe a set of dies. I reload for several calibers now and have a couple different manuals but cant fidn anything on a .280 Ross.

Thanks
Tim

That one could be a problem as the bore diameter is .287 rather than .284. Custom dies are available from all the major manufacturers, Lee might be the cheapest, but I don't know how much lead time they require. You could invest in a Corbin bullet making system to resolve the bullet issue, or limit yourself to shooting cast. Finding brass will be another interesting adventure, but there are sellers who specialize in obsolete cartridges. I just checked with the Old Western Scrounger and came up empty.

Edited to add . . .
Touch base with Bruno Gross at Bullseye Reloading Supplies. I don't have his number here, but I can post it when I get home later tonight.

.280 Ross bullets etc

Hi, Woodleigh sells .287 dia 175 gr bullets, they are for the .275 HH but are the correct dia for the ross. I have purchased brass and bullets from ellwood epps, not cheap but they work. Load info can be found on the net, if you look hard enough, mine is lost somewhere in my crap heap of papers. Unfortunatly i bought Rcbs dies, need to mortgage your house to buy them. I have tried Dkt and Hawk reswaged bullets and they are not good for anything.
Contact Ellwood epps for prices 705-689-5333.

Regards
Doug

Guns and Ammo had an article on paper patching available bullets to the correct dia for odd calibers. The 275 H+H was what they were loading for.The bullet was rolled under a bastard file on a hard surface to scuff up the bullet to hold the patch. Then the patch was rolled onto the bullet moist in the direction of the rifling twist to tighten instead of unwrap and shred. They got under 2" groups at 100 yards.Good enough to hunt with........Harold
