I just picked up a .280 sporter from a fellow CGNer, just curious who else has them?

Also, those of you who have them, do you shoot them? And if so, what are you using for bullets and brass?

I also got the CH4D die set...

I have 2 and have Bell brass and have also used 7 Rem mag brass and sized in 280 dies. I have shot .284 bullets and picked up some .288 bullets with dies but have not shot any of these yet

7mm Rem Mag brass works? Is that similar to sizing down .300 H&H brass?

Bell brass would be nice - where did you get it?

PS: Thanks Longbranch*...

The 7 case don't require as much trimming as the H&H cases, I got the Bell brass from the guy I bought the dies from15 years ago

I have a 280 Ross Sporter...am having a difficult time trying to fabricate a magazine that will take shells in a staggered column .
I suppose that I could shoot it single shot but am hesitating to do so because I think that a well fitted magazine would contribute to the strength of the stock , especially during recoil .
I have a set of dies and a box and a half of Bell brass....but could use some more if anyone has any extra .

ok, so anyone know where to get .287" diameter projectiles? Buffalo Arms has some but won't ship projectiles out of the US.

Then I thought maybe Wildcat Bullets, but they've been sold and are not producing anything for the time being -

Anyone have an alternate source??

Should be blued, too! Smooth buttplate same pattern belongs on either an R-10 or an E-10.
Re:- the original question.....multi .280 SDS's, three LongRange .280 single shots, multi M-10's and one lonely .280 MilMatch- and never fired one of them.

ok, makes sense. How is the fitting at the comb tongue? On mine, the buttplate is checkered but not blued (someone probably removed the blueing at some point to remove some surface rust or something?)

I've seen a few 280's now and the inletting at the comb tongue (the little tab on the top of the sporter buttplate that is inlet into the comb of the stock) has not been perfect.

Anyone able to post some pics of buttplates and the fit and finish thereof?

Ross M-10 buttplate

Here's a pic of mine. If blued at factory, none remains now. I'll get a magnifying glass out later. My R1910 has smooth buttplate.
Cheers
Geoff

Hey Geoff,

What were you taking pics of that gun on the 9th for? You going to sell her?

I got my CH4D dies in... just waiting for brass now.

Also had some custom Redfield bases made up to mount a nice Lyman alaskan (as you know mine already had the front ring D&T'd).

Just waiting for Jason to blue again...
