Hi i have a 280 ross the problem i have is getting 289 dia bullets for it.It shoots a the 387 woodleigh bullets ok but not very accurate..it will keyhole with the .284 dia bullet. The 287 dia bullets are getting there but i think they need to be a couple thow bigger. My question is can the .287 dia bullet be bumped up to .289 or .300 or can the barrel be reamed to .308.

Yes, can bump .287 bullets but most of the time you have to forget about core welding. You can also resize .308" bullets, but same thing may happen. To do so, you will have to swage them in many passes. I too, have one with a worn / oversize barrel, but it still shhots .287" .... but I think about a reboring job since some time.

BTW, to bump and swage you need a pretty tough press and it's much easier to do so with an hydraulic press.

Yes, you can, but the velocities will have to stay within the alloy limits.
As for a reboring job, it depends on who makes it and I didn't have one done recently, so I'm not up-to-date in that matter.

well im getting a little tired of pouring money into this rifle with no positive results its getting to be quite disappointing to say the least .Its been a long road from finding the dies then the brass which i resised and trimmed from 300H&H.That,s another thing the actual cartridge diminsions that i was able to find online are both different measurements so i am not sure what the correct measurements are and if this may have anything to do with accuracy. The 287 dia bullet is real tight in the muzzel of the rifle and the bore dose not look at all worn

Well, did you try other possibilities, such as Hawk bullets?
I also use some 0.287" 154 grainers that I bought from Buffalo some time ago (berfore they didn't want to ship to Canada) and I get best results with both wieght of Woodleigh. The Hawk bullets also work fine.
As for brass, I did used the belted magnum but I really don't like the huge bulge above the rim, and I went with Ultra Mag brass but it needs to be turned a bit at the base. Finally, I ended up using reformed .375 Ruger and really like it.

There is a guy that shows up at the Maple Creek gun show most every year and he has the largest Ross collection I've seen. He has thousands of rounds of 280 and I'm sure he had reloading supplies and there were probably 15 rifles in 280 laying on the table. The Piapot Lions put the show on and if you could do some investigating and find a Lions member he could probably give you a name and some contact info. Piapot Saskatchewan
