So how hard is it to find components, brass, bullets( I read they are of a large diameter) and dies?

Thanks

Ok thanks guys that confirms what I read off the interweb!
I think I’ll pass on the rifle, a George Gibbs bolt action that I think was a bit over priced to start with!
Cheers

It is possible to form brass from belted magnum .300 brass. Size, trim. The belt will enter the chamber, the case will expand somewhat just ahead of the bolt.
Might be worth trying .284 bullets.

A Gibbs made .280 would be quite the vintage rifle. I expect it might be a bit pricey.

There’s one on gp for 2k, unfortunately it’s been altered

That is the one on gp, the only alteration seams to be the drill and tapped for scope mount… the rest look pretty original, I’ e been exchanging with the seller and if it would have been in an other caliber I would have snatched it, but this 280 Ross business will end up too complicated and expensive for me!

I have formed brass from .300 H&H and .375 Ruger. I used Hornady brass both times. I found no need to turn belts on the .300 H&H. The .375 took a couple more steps to get there but works well. I have Ross .280 factory sporter. I actually got my best groups loading Hornady .284 bullets that I used to fireform the brass. I did try Woodleighs and my groups went south! Didn't see that coming!
I have about 10 boxes of Kynoch .280 as well. A couple of fellows have told me it would split necks on firing. Haven't tried it myself.

What weight of powder were you loading under the Woodleighs? My load wound up quite light and I get very good accuracy. Think 280 Ackley rather than the published 7mm REM Mag start loads. Using the REM mag start loads in 280 Ross was quite over pressured, I ruptured a primer and absolutely flattened it at the recommended 56gr of h4831. 52gr was bang on under the 175s. My groups could be covered by a quarter.
