I can never leave well enough alone...... Kinda intrigued by the new 110 Lightweight, my lgs in Victoria just got some in and is set at 1199 greenbacks. What would you choose between in calibers? The 280AI will get it done but the 28 is intriguing, I worry about the light contour barrel and throat erosion in sub 1K round count, would make a mean bean field whitetail rifle tho......

280ai is a 800 yard deer rifle with the right ammo

28 Nosler is a great cartridge, but that is not the platform I'd get one in

This thread is confusing - 280AI is one thing; 28 Nosler is much larger. Two brothers asked me to assemble reloading stuff - one for his 7mm Weatherby Mag and the other brother for his 28 Nosler. Cost of brass will take your breath away for these boomers!! Cost of store bought ammo will put you on your knees! Both the 7mm WBY and 28 Nosler within plus / minus 50 to 100 fps of 7mm STW with 160 or 175 grain bullets - very much want 26" barrels minimum - any of those three. Never loaded for the 280AI, so can not speak to that one.

If a 280 Nosler - as per the title of this thread - exists, I could use some information about it??

The 280AI and the 28 Nosler are different enough that your intended purpose would likely dictate which you want to get.

I actually looked pretty hard at this same rifle in 28 Nosler, but decided that, for the price (this isn’t a $500 Savage....), I wasn’t getting the features I wanted. If the 28 Nosler came with two inches more barrel, and one more round in the mag it would have been ideal.

I would and did go with the 280 ACKLEY several years ago when it was still not a factory cartridge. Built on a Rem Mountain Rifle, it bucks a fair bit, being a light rifle, but gets the job done very nicely with 154 and 139 Hornady's. I have not tried it with the new ELD's and ELDX's, yet because it shoots just fine with the trad bullets although I think the new designs would probably just improve(pun intended) things a bit more. I do like the cart although my name may indicate that I am a bit of an Ackley fan and could be somewhat biased.

I am not adverse to new and wonderful, though, and have looked at the 28 Nosler. I was not overly impressed with what I have read, so I guess you know which one I would suggest.

Either way, have and enjoy.

From what I am seeing on reloading information - never actually fired any yet!!! - there is not a lot to chose from between 7mm WBY, 7mm STW, 7mm Ultra Mag and 28 Nosler. All are throwing 175 Partitions very close to 3200 fps, as per Nosler data - am sure that would vary rifle to rifle, and barrel length would be very critical. About 350 to 400 fps faster than the 280 AI.

280 Ackley, just for points in the style and class category. I am having one built currently and am very excited to get it and start load development for it. I have several powders and bullets to choose from and look forward to wringing this cartridge out. I will be out west next year hopefully for a mule deer/whitetail hunt and this will be the rifle that goes with me if my tags come up.

Back to the original question though, in that rifle I would go with the 280AI like others have stated, 24" barrel and magazine capacity make that better suited to the standard cartridge.
