So a buddy from work is looking for a 280ai. He already has the 280 remington mountain rifle. The question is, is there enough meat on that lightweight barrel to have it re chambered in AI?

The barrel requires setting back a few thou in order to correctly chamber to the AI version but the barrel itself is heavy enough.
