284 win

Gotta work with what I have, so Rem 700 SA

Ok to use with 120/130 gr bullets but FOR -160 grers you need a Wyatt longer mag box to get a proper COAL ! RJ

Trade it fir a Rem M700 long action . JMO

Like I said, gotta work with what I have. I know that would limit which projectiles I could utilize in the 2.80 OAL in the 130-150gr range.

Given the above.. for those running a SA w/out opening up the stock or extending the mag box, what are your go-to projectiles?

I use the Barnes 120 TTSX. and the Speer 130 BTSP to keep in the 2.8 coal Both are Good killing bullets imo. RJ

I was thinking Barnes TSX 140’s or Nos AB/ABLR’s 150’s.

Problem with the TSX is their 2.86 length, so may be a fore gone conclusion of something in the Nos line up at this point.

Flat based hornady 139 gr sp and 154 gr sp work for me. 57 grains of imr 4831 or h4831 with 139 gr and 55 grains with 154 gr bullets. 120 gr barnes and 130 gr speer like previously mentioned are also a good choice.

With RL17 there's plenty of room for powder, you will overload it before you run out of powder space. The problem with a 2.800 OAL imo is most of the newer style bullets from 140 gr and up will be seated past the ogive. Sierra 140 and 150 gr game kings also work well.

I have a M700 SA chambered in 6.5 PRC and I had GEF machine it for a 3.00 inch Wyatt box - Works Good and would with a 284 Win too ! RJ

Great discussion and pics. Always wanted one of those 284's. Even with the mag length limitations it would be an awesome rifle in a good featherweight 99.
Jim, you've planted a seed in my head about rebarrelling that Husky I got from you a while back.
