2nd time out shooting reloads

Hey guys, 1st time out had a bullet get stuck in the barrel on my 3rd round. This time made a batch of 10 and every one went off without a hitch.

Quick question though. I fired a magazine of 124gr factory loads, then a magazine of my 124gr reloads. My reloads cycle the gun fine but have WAY less recoil than similar factory loads. Would that be an indication that i am loading them on the lighter side? I am using 4gr of Tightgroup on 124gr Berry round nose bullets with a COAL of 1.110.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't reload pistol so what does your manual list as a max load? Sounds like they are lighter than factory. Where did they hit in comparison to factory?

4 grains(1096 fps) of Titegroup is the max load for a 125 grain(one grain won't matter) cast bullet. 4.4 is max for a jacketed bullet. OAL should be 1.125". Plated bullets use cast bullet data. Do not use jacketed data for plated bullets. Plating is not a jacket.
Your factory ammo, likely being jacketed, will step out faster. Winchester 124 grain FMJ's, for example, have a muzzle velocity of 1140 FPS. Hence the higher felt recoil.

ya guys, it's a 9mm cartridge. is it a problem that it is only 1.11? yes, factory ammo is jacketed. just wonder if it is a safe load to bang out 500 or so.

"...if it is a safe load..." It's the max load on Hodgdon's site. So it is safe. However, you should work up the load from the starting load(3.6 of Titegroup for a 125 grain cast bullet), using data from a manual or manufacturer's site. Not just pick one and hope.
The 25 thou difference won't matter too much. Feeding might, operative word being 'might', be a bit wonky, but nothing bad will happen.

When I bought all the supplies, the company told me 4.3 and my book said 4 was on the lower side so that is where I started. Maybe I got the wrong info.

4.0 is a good load for plated bullets. Now before you go make 500, try some at 3.8 3.9 4.1 and 4.2(max) to see what your best grouping is. THEN make you 500 (or even thousands and thousands) of the best one.

recoil or muzzle jump? Recoil should be the same. The gun will snap differently with factory ammo as they have their own recipe for powder. Even different brands will have different feel to them when shooting.

If you are not a IPSC shooter, then load them as light as you want (within reason), as long as the gun cycles and you group good. If you are an IPSC shooter, then the best group that is just over PF.
