Howdy, i have a remington model 870 express super mag. It is chambered for 3 1/2 shells, but when i use remington 3.5's, it jams. with a little force the slide will come back and eject the shells. Anyone else have this problem? should i just try some different brands or what. it's a real pickle. any info will be helpful

Where does it jam? I would try a different brand of shell as some brands are slightly longer which may cause a jam. 870's seem to have tight tolerences...

Get the chamber polished, may be a little rough.

It is likely the brass expanding too much and getting too tight in the chamber.

I had trouble with 2 3/4 Federal shells in my old wingmaster. The metal base was getting a coating after getting wet and sitting on the shelf. I had to clean the shells and I was told to take my wire cleaning tip and attach it to the last section of my cleaning rod, then I put that in my cordless drill and "polished" the chamber area. Worked out fine, I shoot the Winchester HV shells now though with no problems.

Waterfowler is right... this is a one problem with the Super Mags... among some others:( ... Get it into a gunsmith to be checked out.
When they work the Supermags work great.;)

I have a thread on this subject already. Its a huge problem with these guns. If you look back I have the Ph numbers and fax numbers for remington. They say take it back for warrenty and get the $ 30.00 rebate. I say Remington owes us more than $ 30.00 !! Fax them on a regular basis telling them there supermag sucks. Im still pounding on there door for answers. Good luck ! Im going to Mossberg.

:p Spend the extra few $ and get a Beretta Extreema! It will even shoot target loads!:dancingbanana:
You get what you pay for! :runaway: Remington is 1960 technology, not the 21th century!

best rgards,and good luck,
Henry;)

I have a 870 s/mag with same problem on old CTC 2 3/4". Friend with 870 S/mag had to do the polish with same problem using 3.5".

I have an 870 and it works fine except when I use 3 1/2 inch remington shells. So I use other brand names and it seems to work out fine. I think I should try polishing.

And i had a 870 Super Mag with the synthetic stock that I abused during an entire season. The only problem I had with it was the shooter, couldn't hit a lake if he fell in it! No jams, feeding issues, loading issues etc. The gun worked flawlessly. And I don't even like Remington!:p
