Well The Good Old 6.5x284 Was King Of The Hill In Burns Lake This Last Weekend At The Annual 1000 Yd Shoot. I Loaned My Gun Built By Bill's Guns In Burns Lake, To A First Time 1000 Yarder, And Under Some Real Nasty Mirage Proceded To Make Me Proud Of My Gun And Bill Proud Of His Work By Shooting A 3.125" 5 Shoot Group, 4 Of Them In 2 ". Then My Son Proceded To Shoot A 9.50" 10 Shoot Group At 1000yd With His 6.5x284 Once Again Built By Bill's Guns. Then A Factory Load 6.5x284 Took The Sporter Class 5 Shoot With A 4.375 " Group. So It Was A Pretty Good Day For The 6.5 This Weekend. Not So Sure If I Want To Switch To 6.5 X47 Just Yet.

I saw some of Bill's work at the gunshow and I was extremely impressed!! I'm also extremely impressed with that group!!!! Well done!

I think the 6.5X284 is still the best 6.5 for the 1000 yard game... the '47 is a nice round, but the 284 version is still king of the 1000 yard hill!

Cheers,

Ian

How about 264 win mag in MODEL 700 Sendero® SF II, I am looking to get, but there are no brass, I am sure 6.5X284 have an edge over the 264 win mag, but also barrel burner!

IT not so much of barrel burner, but it difficult to get brass for that specific caliber, oh and yet they do make barrel, just not everyday!...

You fail...:) It is indeed a barrel burner. Ask those that own one. Great brass is available in Lapua. How many brass do you think you'll need? 100 pieces of brass could last the life of the barrel.

You bet 2bad4u2

They burn out like there is not tomorrow!

I have one it took 50 rounds of load development the 51st shot anchored a 5x5 not sure when the 52 shot will happen, but i do not shoot it much.
I suspect its a 1200 round gun, and I bought it used so I am guessing how many down the pipe.

The 6.5 x 284 is not that easy on pipes either. but not as bad as the 264

Barrels are cheap they are!

Ever heard of 7Rem Mag brass by Winchester????

YET but why get 7rem mag and go though the trouble to reform it to 264 when there are 264 brass made by Reminton?, If I shoot 7 rem mag, then maybe I will get some, But I do heard that winchester brass are pretty good, thank you for the input!

Why use 7RM Winchester brass?????

Let me count the ways....

Jerry

PS, good case lube, one pass through a FL sizer and voila - 264WM brass AND all the benefits which you can read about in many posts on this forum.

What I mean it that why go though the trouble when reminton do make the brass, I couldn't find any last week, but several day ago, But I know who got the brass now...also I don't shoot 7mm rem mag. so I wouldn't have any 7mm rem mag anyway...

Hi Terry I didn't know you'd posted over here. I posted over in the "Long Range/PrecisionShooting" Forum with some pics on the shoot. Over there I refer to your group as the "Houton Junta" as you came close to taking over the shoot albeit with the collaboration of Bill, lol.

Next year maybe try getting the other guys to drive so you can sleep coming and going to be full relaxed at the shoot. It's a 50 miles drive one way.

Since you've sort of focused on caliber, I'm thinking of getting Bill to build me a 260 AI. Thinking it would be as accurate and a little easier on barrels. What are your thoughts on that?

Agreed, I was there too and thought the show was a rather dull affair. I wanted a magazine for a Browning Buckmark .22 I have and all I could find was a guy that want to sell it to me for a premium. Bill's guns added color and flair to the show which otherwise didn't seem to offer anything out of the norm and I am a guy who doesn't like dull guns. To color this thread a bit I'll show a post of some of my pistols the top 2 in the pic have names. The STI 10 mm Eagle 6" slide I asked for and got cutom serial number "oo7":pirate: The Kimber STII is also a 10 mm with a set of Wicked Grips with a Silver Inlay of The Star of David, this one I call Osama's nightmare.

Jerry, can't you just feel the oxygen leaving the forum??

Jerry is trying to tell you that if you cant find any 264 WM brass than you should be able to find 7 RM brass just about anywhere, hell most people resize new brass anyway, the only diff is the headstamp....

Mine lost accuracy around 1200rds. A $150.00 set back and recrown brought it back. It should be good for another 800rds. or so then its rebarrel. Jurys still out if its going to be a 6.5-47 or not. Barrel went from 29" to 26 1/2" with no loss in velocity.

I shoot a 6.5 mystic which is my version of the 260AI. Love it.

In my 30" Gaillard, I am pushing 139gr Lapua's at just over 2900fps with 46.5gr of H4831SC. Very easy to tune out the vertical and have shot teeny tiny groups at LR. No issue working at 1000yds.

My barrel has just digested 1800/2000 rds. The throat hasn't moved at all but the pipe is not grouping as well as it used to. Will try some load tweaks or it may be time for a set back/new pipe. Still shooting in the 3's but I like bugholes.

So this wildcat can offer both the performance of the 6.5-284 and longer pipe life.

Jerry
