I am way more familiar with higher maginification scopes (8-32, 10-50, etc) for target use, but I'm looking at a 3-9 or lower to put on to my new deer rifle. I've cheaped out on optics before, and now I know better. I'm looking for some recommendations for mid-range priced scopes, pros & cons, etc. I'm looking to spend somewhere between $450-800.

I will say that I'm partial to Sightron because I've had great luck with their target scopes, but would welcome your input.

Thanks!

We went with the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 for our Cooper hunting rifles... Great price point & nice optic!

Cheers

Looked through the entire HD5 line at SHOT this year. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the line considering the price point. They noticably improve upon the previous generation Conquest scopes which were fine scopes in their own right. I can tell you from my own experience with European glass that the 40/42mm objectives out perform most other makers 50's

I've got a 40 objective on my Zeiss 3x9 and it's better and brighter in low light then my buddies VX2 3x9x50MM while sitting lower and weighing less.
Another vote for Zeiss.

Dont be afraid of Vortex, my lgs has over the counter lifetime warranty. very clear glass for the money. In my opinion they are chasing Leupold and intend to beat them in time, are offering a better product at a lower cost and really chasing the warranty claim. Zeiss would be my second choice. Crystal clear, good low light, cost less than Leupold ( the used to be standard) for better glass. Zeiss do well better than most in extreme temp changes, so may get a shot another scope might not due to fog.

VX2 are fine scopes but I recently was treated to a new to me Zeiss and can now appreciate what better glass looks like. The one thing I still really like about the leupold is I find the eye box is easier for me to pick-up on ... not that the zeiss is bad! Maybe step-up and have a look at a VX3 3.5-10

Tough nut-have looked through a Zeiss 3x9x40 and immediately was impressed. Own a VX3 3x10x50 and the BC reticle is hard to beat for a hunting application. Vortex have many nice features and are a good value. At the end, think about application, and purchase and don't look back.
