Hi there can someone identify the model of the Enfield rifle this stock is missing?
Thinking Snider-Enfied Mark 1? Pls see my other post for more pics if necessary; there is a large 1 under that cartouche
Thanks

It is a stock from either a 3 band P1853 rifle or from a Snider Enfield three band rifle. It is hard to tell which without measurements of the stock. If it is a Snider it could be from any of the "Marks" as the stocks were never marked but the receiver ring had that designation. It is extremely unusual to find a stock without the rest of the rifle attached. It is not all that unusual to find the action and barrel without a stock! With so many of these three band rifles having been cut down and butchered that stock would be a hot item to return a rifle to original condition. I could possibly tell you more from any markings that may be on the left side of the butt stock....if there are any. The roundel and the big #1 just show it was designated as a 1st class arm when it was issued. Dave...PM me if you have questions

If its from a Snider rifle there will be a cut out in the barrel channel to fit the Snider action.

If shes a straight line from the breech to the nose cap shes from a muzzleloaded Enfield.

Great item to start a rebuild.

Thanks guys, clearly there is a cutout in the channel so I'll call it a 3 band Snider. That does not surprise me as they seem fairly common around here. Owner had no interest in guns and his "friend" "borrowed" the metal from him decades ago and didn't return it. I agree very strange to remove such a stock, even took the buttplate. Hundreds of km away, the culprit may not even still be living so probably no recourse here. Hopefully I can find a good home for it on a win-win trade.
