I was bouncing around an idea that I had this past weekend off of a few of our competitors.

As some of you may know running a 3 gun match is HELL.

Stages take quite a bit of time to run etc.

Normally we run a series of squads in the morning and another in the afternoon.

My idea was to make a whole day event.

Squads starting at 9 am both days. That way we could have more time for everything. We would also have everyone break at 1pm or so for lunch. This would allow the range crews to actually eat (this idea dawned on me saturday as I stood in the pouring rain eating a sodden sub sandwich.)

I also think that it would give a chance for us to socialize a bit more than we usually do at matches.(other than within squads).

We could organize the work parties over the two day period. Basically you shoot half the stages one morning and work the afternoon. The next day you do the same thing.
This would allow the work crews to actually shoot when they are not dead on their feet from working the match.

Anyway.........just an idea that came to me.

I guess it would be run almost like a L3 match.

This sounds like a good idea for the dedicated. Get ready to hear whining regarding “do I have too work?”.

Second suggestion, change your Name to Sunshine Bear or Moderate weather guy bringer of good weather.

What about the name change? Maybe you could do it like they do it for new animals at the zoo. Have a contest and the winner of rename "stormbringer” contest gets to shoot the next ESSA match free and not work.

I think it's generally beneficial to design match and tournament schedules that are at least accessible to people who aren't willing or aren't able (for whatever reason) to come to the range on both the Saturday and the Sunday, in addition to optimizing them to make use of available labour. If I understand correctly, the proposed schedule would not be very accessible to such people, since it would require even non-working shooters to attend on two separate days.

Instead, I would think that a single full day of shooting plus a single full day of working (in either order), or else a single full day of shooting plus a significantly higher fee, would be more reasonable. This would achieve the goal of a more leisurely paced weekend without actually excluding the shooters who can't or won't come twice.

That said, I think the idea is a good one. Officials and helpers work very hard for no pay to make matches and tournaments fun and exciting for everyone else, and it's unconscionable for them not to have at least proper sit-down lunch and rest periods. I felt pretty tired and sore after the recent tournament, and I wasn't even working!

I think it's a great idea, it works great and any advantage from working/shooting morning/afternoon is reversed the second day. :D

Also keeps everyone working, usually :D

You miss understand.........

Say you have 12 stages

All stages are running both days.

Staff are distrubuted in the squads all day. Such that they shoot half the stages. on the first day

Say you have a squad of 10 with 3 or 4 being workers. They switch out at lunch time both days.

And those who will not come out to help they do get charged an additional fee.........say ONE MILLION DOLLARS (insert Dr evil icon here)

I did misunderstand; this seems like a really good idea now.

Also, one million dollars might be a bit excessive, but if you were to multiply the number of hours of work missed by the student minimum wage per hour, and then charge that as the extra fee, I don't think it would be out of line. You could then afford to hire a local kid to patch, reset, run around, and otherwise help out as a replacement for each shooter who preferred not to work.

Hmmmm

Now that is a great idea!

We already work close witht he High school kids for Drama Daze in which they work for free....

Now we could offer them money for the 3 gun match!

Thanks for the idea.

Well I am certain we could have an additional charge for those who do not want to help run the match.

yeah like the idea..but 10am is better..cause its a long drive out your way. Charging money for not patching would make pretty much everybody happy I think. Liked your 3 gun, would like to shoot some more.

10 am??

Hell the chickens have been out for over 4 hours by then.

I made it to the Barrie 3 gun match at 8 am for their last shoot so I could help set up for the 9 am squads I was R/Oing! To make it form the GTA if you leave at 6:30 you have plenty of time.

Longer than that and you can bring a tent and camp at the club.

I am thinking of 8 hours actually range time for the event.

9 am start

1 pm lunch till 2 pm

2 pm till 6 pm shooting.

6 pm till......???........BBQ and camp fire.

Hmmmmm
