3 gun match

Ok so I cant stand it any longer and did not want to seem like a dork but what the hell is a 3 gun shoot.
I am getting into CAS and you use revolvers,shotgun and carbines, is is sort of the same thing with modern firearms?

Yes. 3gun or multigun use pistol, shotgun and rifle.

The normal convention is:

3gun = 1 firearm per stage be it pistol or rifle etc

MultiGun = Multiple firearms per stage. Refer to my post regarding the Terrace R&G multigun and follow the link to the match copy for more info.

actually a 3 gun can be any mixture of the above, some stages will require a transition to pistol or longarm.... some stages will only require one type of firearm and others all 3 will be used, but the 3rd one will be staged for you.

a 3 gun is whatever the organizers want it to be...
