Whats the story?....its news to me?

How many guns do I need for a 3 gun match?

does any one know what calibers for rifle and any other restrictions in regards to caliber / action..

thanks,
the newbie

The WildRose 3 gun matches are based on the IPSC 3 gun rules, check www.ipsc.org for the rulebook and you should be set.

To my understanding pretty much any rifle will work out, heck you could even bring a bolt action as everything is restricted to 5 shots due to SA mag restrictions. I understand there have been people bringing out Lever Actions, Pumps, AR's and anything in between.

By the looks of the website, Black Badge is needed. I better get cracking, cause I would love to try some competitive shooting this year.

Sorry, but as you can see I'm a newbie.

I don't know what Black Badge is?

Thanks for the help

You do not require a Black Badge to shoot at the Wild Rose 3 gun matches. We use the same rules as IPSC but not as strict. We are still very strict on safety and range officers run the matches so no unsafe actions or gun handling will be tolerated. We have families who come out and if you have younsters we bend the rules for caliber of firearms. Normally for adults we would like pistols to be 9mm or larger, rifles to be 223 or larger caliber and 12 gauge for shotgun. Any type of rifle and shotgun will do but it all depends how fast you want to be. We have ARs and Carbines and I use a SKS with stripper clips which makes for slower reloading. We have semi autos but mainly pumps for shotguns. We have had kids shooting 22 pistol and rifle and 410 shot gun.

It is just a fun time and not as competitive as IPSC. Some of us that shoot IPSC do try to be competitive with each other but we mainly just come out for the fun if it. My girlfriend is not comfortable with the rifle and shotgun portion so she shoots the whole match with a 9mm pistol.

Its all about fun and safe gun handling.

Hi everybody, sorry I don't post here very much but I do shoot the WRAS matches a fair bit so I figured I'd add what I could.

Sandytye. A Black Badge is the course and certification a person requires to shoot IPSC and as Handyguy indicated you do not need one to shoot the WRAS matches for your first couple of matches the guys will just walk you through nice and slow.

The WRAS club shoots several different match types like 3 gun, steel man vs man and we are planning some bowling pin matches. In general its a group of IPSC shooters who wanted to shoot more than just handgun and have a bit of practice and fun in a less competitive atmosphere. So the rules are IPSC based just a little more relaxed, if you have a chromed glock or racing stripes on your gun you can still shoot production, If you want to use a dropleg holster go for it and if God forbid you refer to your firearm as a weapon no one will have a hissy fit.

The one area where the rules aren't relaxed is safety.

For the upcoming 3 gun matches it's broken down into three handgun divisions production, standard and open but because of the varied equipment for shotgun and rifle we don't have divisions for them. You'll see everything from SKS's, and Garands to Sigs and AR's competing against each other.

If your interested in having a look or giving it a go every fri night at Phoenix range in Edmonton its kinda practice night or you can come out to a match at Spruce Grove, shooting starts right at 11:00 so get there a bit early to register.

The next match is April 15th, hope to see you there.
