They run in the same division here. The mag capacity difference keeps it competitive.
Hard for any pump to compete against a 9 shell semi. Stage rules can help get them closer

That's why we've started allowing pump guys and gals to load as many as they want at our 3gun events.
When I first started in 3gun, semis only held 5 and mag extensions on pumps were +2 so there was a balance - the trade off of speed with a semi vs. capacity with a pump...now, with many semis holding 9, it doesn't make sense to limit the pump guys and gals to 10. It's not a perfect balance but it's better than creating a separate division in 3gun based on sg action IMO.

I will play devils advocate here. What's wrong with "run what you brung" and too bad for those who have a pump?? IPSC or any other recognized discipline is a gear race whether it was intended to be or not. I don't see three gun being any different. Levelling the field by limiting capacity is great, but what about the guy using a dump pouch and his pockets vs the guy using his Invictus shell holders and other gamer gear. Would that not be an "unfair" advantage no different than the pump vs semi?
Good points. Well thought out stage design can also mitigate gear advantages or disadvantages as well. At one of our club level matches, we gave shooters a 10 second bonus if they started the stage with their shotgun empty vs. preloaded. There are many ways to skin this cat.
Run what ya brung is fun but having basic divisions (we use irons, tac ops, open) allows for better comparison of how well shooters stack up against those with roughly the same gear. Further levelling the playing field by tweaking the stage, start condition/capacity, bonus, etc. keeps it less of a "gear race" IMO. We can never compensate for all of the gear variables but I think it keeps things interesting by addressing the bigger ones - otherwise before long everyone would be using tube loaders on their red dot equipped, ported barrel shotgun!
Congrats. The benefit to that is the 3.5" receiver. It will need some work done to it to be more suitable for 3gun but get out there and shoot it.
