So I have 3 Ross M-10 actions that I would like to build into my 3 rifle battery that will cover any hunting that I'll ever need to do. The kicker is that the cartridges either have to be based off of the 303 British case/ 7.62x54R case or the .532 magnum case head. The bottom metal shown in the pictures will feed the 303 or 7.62x54R just fine, if I go with any magnum chamberings I'll have to with a blind bottom metal to accomodate feeding. The action was designed around the 280 Ross and can definitely hadle the pressures and any cartridge up to 3.6" long. And I load all my own ammo, and wildcat's dont scare me.

So with all that said, what 3 cartridges would you pick?

I was thinking 6.5 Epps, 300 H&H, and 458 Lott.

.280 Ross, .375 Flanged Nitro.

I thought long and hard about the 280 Ross. Seems like a natural pick for such a project, but brass and dies are a bit of a PITA and the original bores were .287” so modern .284” bullets won’t work. I could have reamer designed to utilize a modern .284” barrel.

Never thought about the 375 Flanged, I’ll look into it more.

Are you going to go classic on the overall styling?

Absolutely, the 2 larger cartridges would be done up very similar to the original Ross Sporters but with the military peep sights at the back of the receiver.

The smaller 6 or 6.5 something would be built similar to the pre-64 Winchester Model 70 varmint rifles with a Unertl scope.

You could go 280 Ross if you want to. Correct. 287" bullets from Woodleigh, brass made by simply running 300h&h brass through your hard to find dies and trim to length. I've done this.

How feasible would it be to chambered a ross action in 7x57 rimmed but have the shoulder ackley improved? It would give you the equivalent of a 280 rem.

Can't go wrong with a 6.5 Epps for coyotes and such at longer ranges. The 300 H&H will do for anything NA has to offer and the 375 Flanged Nitro would be a dandy for big critters at bush & woods ranges. Keeps the selection within the Commonwealth to boot.;)

I have one in 6.5 303 imp and also one in 35/303 plus an original 280 plus i am just finishing a #1 Ruger in 280 with .284 bore for something different
I also the 375 2 1/2 case, so you could do the 375/303 which is very close

I have a range of 22-250 thru 450-400 nitro magnum to 50-120 Sharps and I can’t help but ask why you would want to go to all the trouble, time and expense that are collectively involved to chivvy a Ross into covering the waterfront? No disrespect meant or implied but others have already done what you espouse on different chassis all of which are a delight to carry shot and hunt in their own right. May I (respectfully again) suggest an SDS or an M-10 in .280, and that will “cover the waterfront” for you.
I have found, in an otherwise wasted lifetime, of collecting and shooting, that “specials” tax one in every respect, are essentially worthless to the average person and do not bring anywhere near the satisfaction of experiencing the thrill of of a famous maker.
Not to deter, rather advise.
Withe respect
