If you ever feel the need removal of mainspring just don't do it.
However if your mainspring/strut/collar is apart, I used a twelve inch piece wooden 2x4, a wood chisel to carve out a strut seating position about one third inch into the wood. Safety glasses folks!

Compress the mainspring with vice grips of ample size.
Place the collar with U sides upwards.
With compression tension on the spring and collar I used 1/8 inch by 1.5 inch tappered diamond drill bit to cage the collar onto the strut.

Now carefully seat the whole assembly into gripframe with the curved side uppermost and following the curved contour of the rear grip.

You will need careful amount of force to seat this assembly. Now place it in a padded vice.
To remove the "caging pin" (your improvised assembly tool) carefully apply masking tape to hold the collar into its squared off seating position. You need to tape it into the rearward seating position because you will have a certain amount of play, end to end. Enuf play to compromise your efforts to correctly assemble this spring assembly.

Use your previously used vise grips to turn out your caging pin.
Upon removal visually check the upper strut still seated into back of hammer and both sides the collar reach over its rearward and downward seating position.
Then check the mechanism, half, full #### and trigger release.

U are done!

Edit: let's assume your cylinder and grips are already removed no timing issues pawl and spring or bolt.
The gripframe installed complete with trigger & hammer.
