Hi guys

I was asked the other day by a friend whether AK's have been manufactured with 3 round burst capabilities. For the life of my I could not tell him (have never encountered one myself) but from a quick Google search it seems that there are some Polish variants that are Semi - 3 round - Auto.

Anyone have any ideas of what models have been manufactured like this? Any Russian / Chinese etc factories that have put them out? Any in current service?

A list of models would be great. :dancingbanana:

IZHMASH AK-101 – Kalashnikov assault rifle, caliber 5.56 mm. This model became the first assault rifle of the "100" series, based on the AK-74М for the most commonly used cartridges and with the use several new design and technological solutions. All assault rifles of the "100" series feature a mount for night and optical sights, and a more durable folding plastic stock. They are more convenient for carrying and firing. Like the AK-74М, these assault rifles distinguished by their faultless performance in more difficult operation conditions (lower or higher temperatures, in muddy environment, etc.); optimum technical dispersion when using salvo fire in unstable stances; long service life; easy maintenance and repair (disassembly, assembly, cleaning, lubrication, etc.). These assault rifles have several firing mechanism modifications for fixed three-shot bursts. The AK-101 model is designed for the 5.56-mm cartridge used by NATO states in order to enhance its export potential. One can use both foreign cartridges (M193 and SS109) and the domestic RS101 cartridge which has an improved penetration capacity.

The Beryl (Polish) has three shot burst (and full auto).

At first I was amazed by my trigger control, perfect triple taps every time, was starting to feel pretty cocky, then I tried a longer burst. :(

As an option, not a bad feature.

We Poles know how to build an AK:)

AK-47? No. AK? Yes. There are countless variants of the AK, so I wouldn't doubt it.

If you really want to get technical and have the terminology straight :p , then AK is "no" as well, and also there is no such a thing as AK-47. AK is an original "Avtomat Kalashnikova" from 1947, which was replaced with AKM. It actually THE ONLY rifle which was designated as "AK". Combination of AK and AKM is called in North America AK-47 - probably because of the common round for two rifles - 7.62 x 36. But there was no such a thing as "AK-47" in the Soviet manuals. Always either AK or AKM. That is until 1974 when AK-74 was introduced. In any case neither AK nor AKM had 3-shot bursts.

Also if I may speculate FWIW - if it still be USSR, then it probably would not be 3-shot NATO burst, but rather 2-shot bursts. 2-shot burst was (and I think still is) kind of a "signature" of Soviet elite forces (according to some memoirs ) :)

So, returning to subject - AK-101 has differernt designation if you want to be picky. Polish rifle has different designation too.

BTW, can our Polish brothers tell if their rifle was made out of Polish metal (barrel, receiver) or was it imported Russia? Also - was it crome lined or not. Tnx a lot!!

Which is the one with funky recoiling barrel and super fast 3 shotburst? It's one of the AK-100 series, I think.

It is absolutely not related to any of Kalashnikovs. Absolutely independent design.

Not Polish, but my wife is, does that count?

No clue where they get their steel, if you say Russia, so be it. Is this a fact or are you asking? Not a bad thing if it is. Barrels are chromed on Tantal and Beryl.
