OK. So I'm a thrifty bugger and when I go goose hunting I rarely go more than 10 miles. Because I don't invest a lot into these hunts I generally buy the cheapest shotgun shells I can. I have used a lot of Winchester Super X in the past, but have been disappointed with them at times. This spring I saw Score 3" 1 1/8 oz steel on sale at WSS for $12. I bought 3 flats. I did a quick test tonight to compare them to my remaining stock of Winchester Super X. Both shells are 3" 1 1/8 oz BB. I pulled one of each apart to examine and weigh the BB's and the wad. Then I shot two of each over a chronograph and patterened one of each. Rounds where shot out of my Beretta A400 with a Mod choke. I know this a very basic test, but it's all I had time for.

Pellets:
Win had 81 pellets that weighed 477 grains (1.09 oz) about half had noticeable pits in them. pics to follow
Score had 84 pellets that weighed 505 grains (1.15 oz) and look very consistent and round.

Chronograph
Win (Rated at 1550) 1427 fps and 1461 fps average 1444
Score (Rated at 1550) 1542 fps and 1561 fps average 1551

Pattern 18" round circle at about 30 yards
Win 72 in the circle and 10 out 88%
Score 60 in and 17 out And I assume another 7 or so are lost in space. 71%

Conclusion: I had cronographed Winchester shells before and knew they were a little doggy in terms of speed and this confirmed it. I was disappointed the Score shell didn't pattern better, but when I have time I will pattern some more to make sure. I would have to think that the misshaped Winchester BB's would also bleed off speed a little quicker. I was rather impressed with the Score product considering you can buy them for $14 and they are made in Canada.

Hope somebody out there found this informative.

You can easily see the pits in the shot. about half contained a noticeable pit.
The score shot seemed to be more consistent and in fact rolled around on the paper easily.
I don't know much about wads, but the Score wad was a one piece deal and the Win was a two piece.
