Wondering if someone could enlighten me on any pros or cons on the 30-06 AI? Is it worth doing? Or best to just leave it alone? Got a chance to buy a remington 700 bdl ss in 06 from a friend and thought if I was to buy it I defently would consider getting it reamed out.

It can be quite an improvement. Unfortunately factory barrels are individuals and some give higher velocities than others... no way of knowing how much until you do it.

The present barrel will require setting back a turn (to line up sights and printing) which require machining about 60 thou off the end of the barrel and then chambering to the correct headspace (which is tighter than a 30-06) When done correctly factory 30-06 ammo should feel quite tight when you close the bolt. The cost of dies and of the rechambering work isn't cheap.

Tyson69 - send me a PM. I know a guy in Moose Juice who was a big fan of Ackley, and had a handful of rifles in those chambers. From what I remembered, the squarer shoulder and shorter neck gave the cartridge a little more room for the powder to burn more completely. The changed angle supposedly held the combustion in the cartridge longer (as if anyone could actually measure it) and that helped the velocity.

Regular 30-06 has plenty of performance but for me accuracy, brass life and brass preparation time is very important.
I build LH Ruger 30-06 RCBS IMP b/c it's like AI but with lesser shoulder angle of 28deg instead 40deg.
That feature alone IMHO feeds much more smoother that an Ackly's version.
I load my imp Norma brass to regular 30-06 performance and some brass are past 20 reloadings and still in usable condition.
Lenght of brass trimmings are still needed every 6 to 8 shots instead 3 to 4.
