30-06 availability

It seems to be cyclical, 4 months no $30 30-30 ,only the $60 boxes, 4 months later only $60 308.

It's best to break the bank and buy a dozen of your favorite when you can

look for 180s in the 30-06 but do so before hunting season, not the day before you go out.

As I said in the beginning, I'm new to hunting, I'm looking for 150 grain, brother-in-law who grew up hunting here on BC coast, but has now had 20 years hunting from Okotoks, says 150, I said I could find 165s, he said that's a bit to much for our small deer on the coast. I don't know, as I say new to this, but I've seen your Alberta deer, and our coastal, maybe not 1/2 your size, but at least a 3rd smaller. And before anyone says it, I know, deer doesn't care, dead is dead, but I also don't want to be blowing out the other side, or doing more damage than I have to.

I wouldn't steer you wrong, pard - Free shipping on ammunition.

They have 3 in 150 gr, sellier and ballot, is really bottom of barrel, federal is hollow point, my core hunting book says hollow point are not really used for hunting, the nosler, wow, 90 bucks a box, reloading is looking better and better.

I think we can close this thread, I think I'll be reloading. I do have 4 boxes of hornady 150 gr whitetail in 308 coming, and a couple boxes of sako in 30-06, also a box of hornady bullets, I have dies, powders and primers. I'm sure both the Sako and hornady will work fine in my guns, but I think after that, reload it is.

I have found heavier bullets do less damage to meat, less blood shot. My 338 Wm with 250 grain bullets has had less bloodshot than my 6mm Remington with 90 grain ballistic tips. The Federal hollow points will do the job but you are setting yourself up for lots of damage and shrapnel in the deer.

If reloading I would use 165 gr accubonds, I use them on everything from grouse to moose.

In any case, part of the solution is not to shoot them in the meat. Ribs or neck/head shots are my go to. I usually get most of my freezer filled with archery deer now.

That Federal HP is specifically made for hunting, no worries there. And yes, premium hunting ammunition is costly - That Nosler stuff is top of the heap.

I haven't bought factory ammunition in many years, but it is nice to have some on hand.

Nope, sorry, it stays open. That way well-intended posters can let you know about 30-06 ammunition availability months and years from now ;)

I'm new to hunting, I have two 308s and one 30-06. Hopefully this fall I'll be deer hunting. With that in mind, and never ending shortages, I figured I'd get a couple different boxes, of a couple brands, in both calibers now, then this spring when weather is approximately same as fall deer season, I can go out and see what ammo works best in both calibers. Question is, why is 30-06 so hard to find ? SFRC theammosoarce for example, pages of 308, not one listing for 30-06. My local store had shelves of 308, but 1box of 180 gr and 2 boxes of, 220 I think it was, in 30-06. 150 gr in 06 is pretty hard to come by, so much for trying a few brands. I've got a box of 150 gr Hornady sst bullets coming, so I could reload, but for my first hunting, I thought I'd go with factory.

I approve of your logic of shooting this time of year. Likewise for me, I conduct load development in the winter and spring and don't shoot at all in the summer. I then return to the gun range in mid October, to sight-in and practice with my rifles, prior to the big game season. Temperatures in winter/spring are almost the same as mid-autumn. Best of luck finding 30-06 ammo, there are lots around, just have to hunt for them.

Ya I love it when I see a post with someone replying about something that interests me, click on the thread, only to find it 5 years old.

Haha, no kidding - Kind of wish there was a popup warning you when you are about to post on an old thread. Some people still wouldn't notice, of course. Internet hazards...

OP I know your pain. I'm in need of a box of 30-06 too. The real kicker is I don't even own a damn 30-06! I owe my buddy a box, but the type hes been shooting hasn't' shown up on store shelves that I've seen (Federal Non-Typical in 180gr flavor). It was exceedingly common stuff prior to all this madness too, thats half the reason he picked that as his go-to ammo. lol

Over the last 10 or 15 years I've said this over and over again, why doesn't every reloader buy from Budget Shooter's Supply, last Wednesday I ordered 4 boxes of 308 and box of 30-06, plus box of bullets to reload, from another advertiser on here, all in stock items, today I had to email to ask if they were going to ship them.
Today at 3:15 pm I ordered a couple pounds of powder and another box of bullets from budget shooter's, 4:11 pm I get shipped notice, 4:55 pm I get Purolator notice saying they picked up parcel, oh and shipping was 10 bucks cheaper from budget. I bet I've made 50 orders with budget over the years, not ever one single problem, and other then Sunday orders, he ships within hours. I posted a few times on his section on here tellinghimhowincrediblehis service is, along with others, so I don't need to tell him again, but since I've now said im going to reload for these rifles, I just had to tell the viewers of this thread. Budget, Budget, Budget, look there first, he may not have what you want, but you sure won't be disappointed with service.

Henry has never disappointed here, either.

FYI, Cabela's online shows quite a few options for 30-06 in stock, some on sale today too. Free shipping (including ammo) over $150. Just another option, I often forget to check them since they're not high on my list.
