Hello guys, started loading for my .30-06 with Federal once fired brass, trimmed to 2.49". Chamber great until a bullet is seated then this weird ring at the top case appears that goes right around. Noticed the rifle bolt closing a little tight but still fine so I thought the shoulder needed bumped a bit. Didn't help. bullet was seated 3.24", bumped back to 3.195". Factory ammo at 3.27" chambered fine so it wasn't the bullet out to far. Then I made a more compressed load and it would not let the bolt close at all and I noticed this ring. Is my seater set wrong, crimp problem? Dies are RCBS. I am not crimping but thought die is trying too?

Your die is crimping. Had a same problem with RCBS 7x57 die. It turned out that it was the shell holder.

You will have to explain that one. How can a shell head holder have anything to do with a die crimping a case neck?????

My guess is that his shell holder was thicker than the one that he set his dies up with. That's the only reason that the shellholder would be to blame that I can think of.

Is it me or does that case neck look awfully long? What was the length of the fired case prior to loading?

I think he just means that the shell holder was too close to the die.
Turned the die up and all was well.
