Looking for a load using 165 grn accubonds in my 30-06...using IMR 4350, the nosler manual states a max load of 57 grains...looking at the imr data, they show a min. Load of 56, and a maximum load of 60 grains...is the Nosler data over cautious? Where should I start?

57-58 grains of IMR4350 is usually the max load [in most rifle] for the 180 grain bullet in a 30-06. I have yet to see a 30-06 that would not digest 59 grains of IMR4350 behind any 165 grain bullet, and have had a couple that maxed at 61 grains for close to 2950 in a 24" barrel. I would start no lower than 56 grains with the 165 and work up in ½ grain increments. The chronograph is your friend. In a 22" barrel 2875 is close to max, in 24" you could see over 2900. Regards, Eagleye.

Yep, two different 30-06 rifles, both 24", but one always gave nearly a hundred feet a second more than the other, with any load.
58 grains of 4350 and 165 Hornady bullet, one rifle gave 2778, while the other averaged 2696. Mild loads.
With the slower rifle, 60 grains of Norma 204 averaged 2912, which still was a very normal load.
At the time I was doing this, I noticed one of the major reloading books showed 54 grains of 4350 as a maximum in the 30-06 with a 180 grain bullet, and giving a velocity of the usual 2700 fps.
I duplicated their "maximum" load and it gave me 2436 fps!

I am using 57 grains with my 165 Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, velocity is 2784 with a 3 shot group of .850" at 100 yds. I have had 59 grains in it but the accuracy suffered greatly, but there were no pressure signs yet.

I shoot those noslers and 57gr of 4350 - laser beams !

Ive said it before, Im not a sniper by any means... but on a really good day (about 3 in 5 are really good days) I can cover 5 shots with a quarter with this load, shooting off bags, with about 15 minutes between shots.
