I came across this video on youtube and thought it would be a good idea to load a few of these up to shoot some grouse with when deer hunting. After a little internet searching I found these are referred to as "gallery loads". I am not sure if it is a smart idea though. I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with loading these types of rounds; specifically in the 30-06, and if the found results were good or bad?

I've been working on something similar for my 300 WBY (https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...ghtweight-300-wby-load?highlight=toddpotiphar). So far I've discovered the following:

1) 11-12 grains of Trail Boss with 200 gr cast bullets is deadly medicine for gophers and is plenty accurate, but it's still too loud for what I'd consider a "grouse load";

2) there are no issues at all with very small loads of very fast powder in a large case (https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...for-very-fast-powder?highlight=toddpotiphar); and

3) decreasing the load to 6 gr of Trail Boss with an 90 gr Hornady HP/XTP will leave the bullet about 3" short of exiting the barrel (DANG IT!).

I'm hoping that something in the 8 gr range will produce quiet, reliable results.

you could look at the "Hammond Game Getter"...22 blank, (you can buy various different power levels for the ram-set type tools) offset, in a modified case. You can use round ball but for 30 cal i found swaged lead 32 pistol bullets (.312ish) perfect. I had one in a 300 win. I never checked the speed but they worked well for grouse. I've loaded a lot of 230 gr lee cast over about 8 grains of unique for subsonic but they are still not what i'd call quiet.

I make a small pile of them once a year for .303 Brit, I think they're 78 gr? Campro 32 acp bullets, 3.5 grs of Bullseye is a decent accurate load. Not subsonic but fun to plink with

Cast 90gr Hornady .314 sized .310/3.5gr Red Dot/874fps/2.85 AOL or 5gr/Unique/1020fps...............can substitute cast 90gr Lee Tokarev bullet
Trying to reload a Hammond game getter in a flock of grouse is an exercise in futility.I use mine for finishers on downed big game as well as the chicken loads above.

It’s all i shoot in my milsurp. 11-12gr. Unique with a 150-180gr cast bullet. You can shoot all day without breaking the bank, and it do not wear the barrel.

The Hammond Game Getter looks like an interesting; similar to those 32 acp adapters. I would like to try loading some of these low grain loads too. Any tips on where to find .30 cal cast bullets? I usually buy jacketed bullets and have not seen any cast in my local stores; however, I am also not looking for them.

Same here (for the 32 pistol bullets). I cast a 98 gr bullet and shoot it lubed but not sized. I load them in either 308 or 30/06 with 5 gr of 700X or 15 gr of 4759 ( or now 15 of 4198). I enlarged the flash hole and use mag primers. I also use 2 sq inches of paper towel to keep the powder in front of the flash hole. Very accurate at 25 yards.

I've loaded cast 32 cal pistol FWC bullets in 30-06 with a 22LR case full of Bullseye. I never did weigh it, but it just about goes through the 2" thickness of a 2x4.
