30 06 min. case length and trim question

Does anyone know what the minimum case length is for a 30 06 ?? Also, Are cases to be trimmed even if they are under max length after resizing ??
I tried the search, and the web but have been unable to get much info.

If you full length re-size, trimming is recommended as the neck of the reworked brass can extend. Neck sized only brass seldom needs to be trimmed. There is no requirement to trim if the case is less than or equal to the recommended spec's.

My book is showing max length at 2.494, so if I was you and had to pull a number out of a hat, I'd trim them to 2.484. As long as the cases are under the max length, you don't have to trim them though. With new brass I size and trim right off the hop.....personal preference I guess.

I generally load and fire new brass once, then trim to minimum [2.484" for 30-06], then I do not trim again until one or more cases of that batch reach maximum length [2.494" for 30-06] regards, Eagleye.

What Eagleye said, just finished sorting all my 06 brass and trimmed to minimum 2.484

I would shoot them, unless the necks were so short they wouldn't hold the bullet properly.

No, just load and shoot them. They will reach minimum length in a few reloadings. I made dozens of cases for a previous 308 Norma Mag from 7mm Rem Mag cases. They start life about .100" shorter than minimum. Never had any problems with them. Eagleye.

I personally trim all my cases when new for consistant crimping. Depending upon manufacturer, sometime you will have to go .015 to .020 under max length. If I have more than a few under specs I'll trim them all to be equal, just to be consistant. .015 under will not affect the cartridge's performance, but will affect performance if the crimps vary with brass overall length. .....It's called "blueprinting" so everything is equal in components, resulting in consistant shots.

They are fine, the 30.06 is blessed with a long neck to begin with...I often trim shorter than 2.484" and have for years, no problems.
