Hi all,

My Hornady Handbook says Varget is the best, but it is for a different barrel and twist rate. Would like your help in recommending something closer to what I have

SAUER 100 Classic XT 22" Barrel 1:11 Twist
Hornady ELD-Match 168Grain
Large rifle Primer Federal #210
This is for bench at range out to 600yards

Previous Owner is this rifle said that he was using H4350, but that was for a different 165gr BTSP interlock.

Can't find either around town to purchase. Can't find varget either.

Any other solid recommendations for powder?

There are many....many choices for 06, and family. My go to..s...have always been 4350 and 4831. The slower 4831 would be a better choice for large projectile. If your using a powder measure, fine or ball powder like 760 would meter better.

Thank you, consider the 168 to be a large projectile for the 3006?

You can go up to 220 grains, but the 180 work great. No problems with a 168.
In my Win 70, that bullet weight outshine any other weight. Taken moose and all kind of critters with it.
The warhog guns used 150 grains.

This /\ but go for the H4831 super short cut and switch over to MAGNUM primers.

I have been using D4350 and really like it, unfortunately Canada Ammo is sold out of it right now. I was able to pick up a jug of D4831, and have yet to try it. I find the D4350 very accurate. At $160.00 for 5 lbs, it is a great price too!

IMR 4350 and D4350 is a bit bulkier than 4350. Use IMR 4350 data and start light; I find it a bit hotter, but do not have any means of checking velocity, and look to physical pressure signs to show me when I am pushing it a bit farther than I should. With the D4350, I have found my accuracy node before seeing pressure signs on both 95 gr V-Max and 120 gr. HPBT; both loads are lightly compressed. I find compressed loads tend to shoot a bit more consistently; even going back to my days reloading .223 and 7 x 57. Again, this is in 6.5 x 55, so actual loads I'm using don't apply to your situation.
