just wondering for discussion sake, Not that I would every try this but could you safley shoot a 30-30 catridge in a 32winspl Model 94.

I would imagine that you could and obviously lose accuracy but would this be dangerous to the shooter or the gun?

Thanks

Yes. Bullets rattle down slightly larger bore of the .32 Spl barrel. Your brass is then now 'fireformed' to .32 Spl 'specs' ... Ready for reloading with .32 cal bullets for the right ctg next time... ;)

No one would ever take the chance thats why I'm asking on here and not going out and trying for myself!

NAA, I was just looking at your reply and if someone fireformed the shells and reloaded them for a .32 you would want to mark those shells clearly and never get them mixed up.

I would imagine if you got that combo mixed up you would be looking at trouble. If they even chambered!

Well I know a fella that got a Win 94 for a steal cause the guy that owned it said it was the worst shoting 30-30 he'd seen.

When my Bud got home he called me up to come and see his "NEW" 38-55 !
Seems the fella had been shooting 30-30's through it for years....:runaway:

As to your question Camper, YES 30-30's will chamber and shoot in the 32 Special rifles (thanks to the rim) Obviously accuracy will suffer as the 308 bullet slides down the bore......the case & or neck may or may not split which is most likely the "worst" thing that will happen........doubt they even will though as they are pretty close case wise.

But it's not the smartest thing to do at any rate;)

There are plenty of even WORSE ammo substitutions; I've seen .30-30s fired out of .303s, and Hatcher tells of a guy who rechambered a 6.5mm Arisaka to .30-06, then FIRED it like that. The rifle held together, but it swaged the bullet down to golf pencil shape.

There are no issues, other than maybe tumbling bullets.
Back a few decades, the ammo MFGs judt about dropped the 32. They were very hard to find. Thousands of hunters shot the 30-30 in their 32's.
I was in a gunshop, when a fella spotted a new box of 32Special that Winchester has just re-introduced. He was close to tears, and no I'm not kidding. As Gunnuts, I think you can understand the attachment to a particular firearm you can get.

I heard of guys in NS that shoot 30-30 out of their .410s Apparently while bird hunting they carry a few 30-30 rounds in thier pockets, good for about 30-50 yds or so. Although most (single shot) 410s I have seen, have extra heavy chambers, I can't see me trying this.
