Hey all,

I'm looking for recipes for shooting cast bullets out of my marlin 30-30. I will be shooting 165gr hard cast, but have no idea how much/type of powder that I should use to prevent leading, but still attain decent velocities around the 1800fps.

This won't be used for a plinking round, more as a generic game-getter type of round. Any info would be great. Cheers -Cameron

If you are using a cast bullet with a gas check, and a decent lube, you can use jacketed bullet recipes in the 30-30. Try to stick to the ones using the faster powders for most consistent results.
I used H4895 for years at 1900 to 2000 fps, with no issues.
Velocities in the 2000fps range shouldn't produce a lot of leading if your bore is smooth, and you do a decent job reloading, and casting.
Remember that in addition to velocity, Lead hardness, and the fit of the bullet in the bore can also affect leading.
