I'm at the range right now with my old 30-30 and having some odd trouble. I have some hand loads that I am using but I am using two different brass. Half FC and half Winchester. All my Winchester brass feeds, extracts and rejects perfect but my FC brass is jumping the extractor and getting stuck in the chamber. All brass is full length sized and 0.6gr bellow published max load(which I have worked up to). Could the FC brass be that much thicker to cause more pressure? I have used this load in other rifles with both brass and had no issue.

Edit: there is also RP brass in there that works great with no pressure signs.

Are the Federal 30-30 cases range pickup brass or originally fired in your rifle?

Do the cases extract on the second or third attempt, meaning after they have cooled a little?

All my own brass and all once fired by me but I couldn't tell you in the same rifle or not. I didn't wait for them to cool, attempted 3 times right away before I pounded it out with a cleaning rod.

You may have some irregularities in that old 30-30 chamber.
Federal brass, being softer, may be sticking due to those
irregularities. I would ditch the Federal brass for use in that
rifle. Dave.

I didn't think of that, she was made back in 1927. This is the first time I have had any issue with thus rifle, have had it for about 10 years now and I'm sure I fired factory FC rounds but honestly, I can't be 100% sure.

I have a similar issue with my Winchester but it only happens sometimes with Hornady brass. It is like about one in twenty will be hard to eject. I use 21.9 gr H4198 with Berry's FMJ 150 gr bullet. I've tried for a long time to figure out why but I just can't seem to find anything off with any of the brass.

Winchester, Federal, and Remington all work fine without any issues.
