.30-30 Marlin... Ive been thinking...

Maybe Ive got too much time on my hands but here goes.
I was thinking of playing with the Marlin 336 loads. Mostly, I use Hornady FTX 160g projectiles with Leverevolution powder. Works great and I'm happy with the results. Ive played with the CBTO and again found a happy spot.
Im now looking at using a more pointed projectile like the Hornady GMX 165g. I'm thinking one in the chamber and one in the tube. No risks. Should I go for it or be happy with what Ive got so far?
 
The "30-30" bullets you're currently using are designed for use with the slower velocity of the 30-30 cartridge. Going to a standard 308 calibre pointed bullet won't gain you anything and will perform (expand) less when used at those velocities.

It'd be fine within 100y or so, but you wouldn't see any of the performance design gains.

I am a fan of the opposite however, 30-30 bullets in a 308 win. The flat point and RN designs of the 30-30 bullets work great on game up close.

A First Nations friend of mine up here uses the old CIL Dominion 170 gr Sabre-Tip plastic point bullet made for the 30-30 loaded to the gills in his Rem 600 308 carbine.....on everything!

Heres a thinkining thing. What about a match bullet like a 168 AMAX? They do well at lower velocities as a result of long range shots on game so cut their zoom zoom off at the knees and maybe they'll spice up your .30-30 love life?

My favorite is the Barnes TSX 30-30 loaded in the 308. The hollow point on it is massive!
