Who's running one? What is it eating and what are the speeds? Barrel life?
I think a 300 lapua mag improved would be sick. Prove me right or wrong which ever.

Based on my experience with the 30-378 I'd say it you'd have a .30cal laser good for maybe 1000rds.
I'd guess 3000-3100fps with the 230 Berger depending on barrel length. It would be impressive while it lasts.
Too much work (fire forming) and expense vs. ROI. For me anyway.

I'm interested to see what people say here. I was considering 300 Norma, 30-338 Lapua and possibly 30-338LM imp.

I got a good deal on a 338LM barrel so that's what I went with. Maybe my next barrel will be a 30cal.

I built something similar, called it 300 Awesome. 338 Lapua AI necked down to 308 cal. Sends 240 gr SMKs down the 30" pipe at 3450 fps.
Needs only 15.5 MOA to make the 1000 yard mark.
I figure if I get 750 rounds through it before needing to rebarrel it would be a bonus.

Why do you use the 240gr SMK?

Would a 230gr Berger match hybrid target be a better bullet choice? G1 BC of 0.743 - G7 BC of 0.380

Had a chance to do some 1000 yard work with swissins 30-338 last year. It's pretty much cheating, hits at a km are a cakewalk. That said, expected barrel life is in the 600-800 shot range, so if you are a tinkerer with handloads, prepare to be changing barrels often.

after his barrel went kaput, he changed back to the .338LM, barrel life is several thousand rounds Providing you keep velocities reasonable.

Neat calibre for sure, but I dislike barrel burning chamberings.

I have a 300 lapua (30-338 lapua) the thing is a laser and 1000 yard hits are a chip shot, no free lunch tho it's hard on barrels, I have redding custom dies for mine

Yup I had one and it was amazing. A km is too easy for it. I missed a 12x12 steel plate by one inch at 1550m...cold bore...in 20km per hour winds. I got 1000ish rds till she schit the bed. Had redding custom dies as well. Berger 230 OTMS are the only pills one should use for such a caliber. Retumbo was what I used but I think H50 would be good as well. If you can afford it...go for it!

I think Schecter 81 has a new one. He calls it a 338 improved. The same thing?

I value my barrel life too much!

Jason has one though and it is a laser. The other option is the 300 Norma. Quality brass and it will nearly get the same velocities. Jay is building a 300 Norma Improved right now if Im not mistaken. Tried to confince me to make my new 7mm a 7mm-300 Norma Improved!

Because the 450 rounds Steve got out of his Snipetac wasnt stupid enough...
