30 BR Barrel Length

lots of good answers on 6mmbr in the 30br section. You may also consider going with the robinett chambering, you can form your brass with a sizer die rather then having to fire form them with cream of wheat. If you just neck size up a 6mm to 30 in a sizer die it will be quite a bit short for a standard 30br chamber.

Look into a 17 twist barrel and 125grain bullets, once I get my next set of targets up and shot I will post pictures of the rifle and results.

Thanks Yodave---I'm using a Robinette reamer with 0 freebore & .330 NK---17 twist barrel ---Redding Type S FL Match die set. A buddy prepped brass from 6BR with necks turned to give me a .328 diameter loaded round after resizing with a .325 bushing. I haven't decided on barrel length, but am thinking either 23 or 24". Just not sure if there would be any advantage to going beyond 24"..hence my question. Look forward to your target posts and info on load data. The 30BR is an interesting round, with reports of accuracy retention for 7000+ rounds. My buddy has fired his brass 37 times.

My .30 Br. has a 26" bl. and 1-12 twist, Robinette chamber, Lapua 6mm brass is easy to form to .30 but leaves a donut which I take out as i must turn case necks with the tight chamber. It's the best caliber for cast bullets that I have worked with so far. I've tried the Redding tapered expander, as well as the expander die from Sinclair and still get a donut.

You will always get the donut as the brass on the shoulder of the 6mm case is thicker then then the neck. Found it even with 7mm remington brass. Curious as to what your shooting in your in the way of cast. I just got a double 115 grain rcbs mould I may have to try out.
