.30 cal bullets

No worries, was not a helpful post but was reading about reloading myself and wondering how the hell you come up with a system whereby...

.30-06 cause .30 calibre developed in '06 for an '03 gun
.45-70 cause .45 with 70 grains of powder (not because '70 development date)
6mm 55 cause 6mm with 55mm long case (not 55 grains of powder)
7.62 cause its a Euro .308
7m-08 cause its a 7mm in a .308 case
.270 cause its a .270 in a .30-06 case

No wonder they call them "pills", can use an aspirin myself now (preferably RNCC...).

.308 diameter projectiles are actually used in all of the following calibers;

01) .300 Win Mag
02) .30-30
03) .300 Savage
04) .308 Winchester
05) .30-40 Krag
06) .300 H&H Magnum
07) .30-06
08) .308 Norma Magnum
09) .300 Weatherby Magnum

I've probably forgotten a couple but you get the idea. The .308 diameter bullet is available in 60 plus different styles, weights and designs making it one of the most versatile projectiles ever manufactured.

So a 308 caliber bullet is OK for 30-06? Can you guys recommend a source where a fellow might read up on this information?:)

If you are reading through a reloading manual published by bullet manufs like Speers/Barnes/Nosler etc and look at the listings for various calibres. It will tell you precisely what dia bullet to use ie: .308 or .307 etc. If the one you are loading uses that particular size ie:.308 then that is what you are expected to use for that calibre. I think there is an exception in there, either the 307
or some series of 303? Read the manual. You 30-06 and 308 take the same bullet and whatever you find in the manual that uses the same dia bullet then go for it. If you do not have one of these then get one berfore you do any loading and read it several times. I have 3 as well as the ABCs of reloading and have read them all. You really want to be sure for this stuff and the manuals are bibles. They are full of engineering specs that leave absolutely no doubt. This is a road best travelled forearmed and cautiously. Besides its so embarrasing having your breech blow up at the range with witnesses. Then again you might not survive it and not have to answer any annoying questions....
