I'm wondering if a .308 bore brake would do much on a .264 barrel. I found a brake that has the perfect outside diameter and finish but doesn't come in .264, would a .308 muzzle brake do much besides keeping the mud out? Who's tried it?

It'll work fine. I've run a 30 cal Heathen on a 7, 6.5 and 6mm, run a 6.5 Heathen on a 6mm, etc. You should consider something other than a radial brake though, they aren't as effective as a properly ported brake and they push some of the blast down which, as you can imagine, is less than ideal when/if shooting prone.

It's a titanium brake on a hunting rifle so kicking up dust isn't a concern. I'd like it for protecting the crown more than anything but was wondering about recoil mitigation, not that it matters much. And yes, I know it'll be loud!
