I need a little help. Does anyone out there shoot a Ruger in 30 Carbine, and if so, do you have any loads you'd like to share? Presently I'm considering the Speer 110gr HP and H110 for powder.

The Lyman Pistol and Revolver manual has .30 Carbine handgun data. A Ruger Blackhawk was used for the load developement.
Gives 11.5(1054fps) to 14.0(1369 fps) of HPH110 with a 1.660" OAL for a 110 grain HP.
My carbine is partial to Speer 110 gr HP's with IMR4227. The Lyman book gives 11.0(1188 fps) to 14.5(1428 fps), same OAL, as a handgun load.
There's more data for other bullet weights if you want it. E-mail me.

I have a copy of the Pistol & Revolver Handbook 3rd edition,:redface:but I must be blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. In the 'Introduction To Data' section, the 30 cals listed are 30 Luger, 7.62 Tokarev/30 Mauser, then it goes to 32 Automatic. In the next section, 'Thompson/Center Contender & Encore', the 30 cals listed are 30-30 Winchester, 308 Winchester and 30-06 Springfield.

I also have a copy of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd editionand there in the rifle section under 30 Carbine they have load info for three different cast bullets. In the handgun section, under 30 M1 Carbine (Revolver), again, just data for three cast bullets but the firearm used was the Ruger Blackhawk.

;)Moving right along, in the Lyman 49th edition Reloading Handbook, and in the rifle section only they have jacketed loads for the 100gr & 110gr plus two loads for two cast bullet.

There are two bullets that look interesting, the Speer 110gr HP and a Hornady 90gr HP-XTP. I've marked them down for my shopping trip at WSS and will likely go with H110 for powder. Thank you:).

i used to shoot that very gun, only load i ever used was 15.5 grs ( i think, will double check when i get home) of H110 and a hornady 100 gr short jacket, never did try the 110's

I believe in the Speer manual that is the suggested maximun with the Speer 100gr "Plinker" and I may pick some of them up as well.

By the way, I like your signature and that happens to be the caliber of rifle I'm looking for, in a Schultz & Larsen.

well, mines built on a 1903 springfield, and i wouldn't part with it for the world!

I've been a fan of Schultz & Larsen rifles for quite a while and I've decided to go for the big three calibers of co-operation between Schultz & Larsen and Norma. I have had a 308 Norma Mag for a few years now and fairly recently picked up a 7x61 S&H. One more to go;), the 358 Norma Magnum then I'll be happy:). There was a Brno or CZ available but it's the Schultz I want. In preparation, I've picked up seven boxes of Norma factory ammo and a set of RCBS dies at recent local gun show from a guy on this site.

"...have a copy..." My copy is copyrighted 1978. Latest printing was in 1992. Carbine data is on Page 72.
This won't be pretty. No Win 296 Start load. Have the data in a Word Perfect document too. I've sent this data to several guys.

Thanks for the data sunray. Much appreciated. So far and until I collect some components for it I've been reading and gathering info. Years ago when I was out shooting it with my shooting buddy, all I remember is how LOUD it was:eek:. At one point during our shooting that day I obviously had forgotten to put in my ear plug before he touched off a round:redface:. The sound seemed to be a combination of as loud as a 44 mag and as sharp as a 22 Jet. I didn't make that mistake again. I don't think there is any other report of a handgun cartridge with that level of intensity.

Hell yes. You don't want to be shooting your Ruger ever without ears.

I thought I'd take and post a quick picture of the Ruger 30 Carbine I have the 'loan' of.

;)I'm 'working' on the purchase of it:).

"...how LOUD it was..." Yep. The little fellow is hot out of a handgun. 14.0 grains of IMR4227 is just below max for an 18.5" carbine.
