They are the same (ie: no steel lips), as far as I know.

i have a emington clear 30 rnd and it does NOT have steel lips and the lips are starting to get chewed up....

my buddy told me to get the 30 rdn steel lip version because the plastic one is a jamaholic, i guess i have no choice....

the plastic ones do need work (sanding), but I haven't seen any metallic ones

approximatly how many rounds did you get out of the plastic lipped 30 rd mags before they wear out? also.... What do you have to sand on them to keep them from jamming up?

I have 4 plastic 30 rounders from Remington. All I did was remove the excess plastic from the mold lines on the top 1/8th of the magazine (the part that goes into the mag well).

I haven't had any issues with jamming at all.

What type of ammo do you use for target shooting and for hunting. I'd prefer a high velocity HP for the hunting. Do the CCI Velocitors work (feed) well in the gun? I'd like to know before I go buy a bunch of different ammo that won't work.

I'm reviving this thread.. because my plastic 30 round mags are cracked and chipped at the top lips, and getting worse, as well as more frequent jams. Anyone figure out if there are any remington 597 30-round mags with steel lips yet?? I've seen them for other rimfire, but not much for 597.
