Hey all,

Been loading 110gr Barnes Tac-Tx and Hornady 110gr CX etc for a 16" 300 BLK for a while now, seeing the 2400 fps that the manuals say it should be getting with about 20-20.2 grains of H110

Wondering what kind of speeds you guys with shorter barrels are getting with your supers? Especially around 12.5" barrel?

2150-2200fps with 110 Vmax/Varmageddon through 10.5" barrel. I'm only using 19.5 H110 @ 2.04" though. I give it a slight taper crimp followed by a kiss from Lee FCD. Seems to shoot very well but I only have a red dot on the gun and don't bother with formal group checks much...

Very cool, B!

I follow pretty much the same loading procedure as you do. Thanks for the info.

Here is some data I pulled. I have tons more if it is of any use. Everything I do with .300 uses H110. I just haven't found anything that does enough better with both subs and supers to bother.

19.5grns H110
110 Vmax
Barnes Brass with CCI 450
2.04''

10.5''- 5 shots produced 2181fps avg
7.5''- 5 shots produced 2052fps avg

Hornady Custom 110 Vmax produced 1853fps from the same 7.5'' FWIW.

The Lee bullet is loaded to 1050+/-fps with 11grns H110. It runs almost exactly 100fps slower from the 7.5".

I know that isn't exactly what you need but I hope it helps.

You fellows are shooting little pills. I am currently playing with 220 ELD-X ‘s at just over 1100 fps.

Guilty.

I never saw a reason to shoot the heavy subs, when the 110gr Barnes Tac-Tx and Hornady 110gr CX are doing very well on deer and light plinking bullets are cheap. But I could well be ignorant to something here haha

I was around 2400 fps with both 110gr Barnes & 125gr SST in a 16.5" M700 (H110)

2400 fps with the 125gr SST even? Nice!

Only shot the 110 Barnes and CX here so far but with 20.2 gr of H110 they were both hitting 2400 fps from a 16" Ranch. Wouldn't have thought the 125gr SST could get that fast at all.

Sierra has their 125gr bullets at 2300 fps but Hornady stops at 2100.

It was about 8 years ago so my memory could be a bit off. My load notes are on my laptop if you send me a PM I'll confirm the data

10.5" Criterion barreled Spectre LPC - 2240fps with 110gr vmaxes (19.4gr H110, CCI 400) and 2040fps with 135gr Sierra varminters (18.8gr H110, CCI 400).

16.5" m700
110gr Vmax, 19.5grs H110 ~ 2420 fps
110gr Barnes TacTX, 20.0grs H110 ~ 2400 fps
125gr SST, 18.7grs LilGun ~ 2260 fps

Thank you tod!

Thats a good speed on that 125gr SST. Looks like you can get some great velocities out of Lil'Gun, that one included. It smokes the 110s as well it seems. This guy was getting over 2300 fps from a 10.5" barrel.

Read a couple things about Lil'Gun gave me pause though, would like to see what you and everyone else thinks. Does it burn super hot? Complaints were raised by Freedom Arms and others in regards to how quickly it eats through forcing cones and top straps on revolvers, which isn't a problem in rifles....but this was imporessive haha.

I say stay the hell away from it. I played with it for several years from 2012 to 2016 or so.

The problem is the powder burns so damn hot it melts the base of the bullet.

This is a bolt after 59 rounds from brand new.

Yes, Lil' Gun burns ridiculously hot. I don't use it for that very reason. Shooting slowly from a bolt or other manual gun I wouldn't worry too much but it's not suitable for any semi-auto you care about IMO.

Good to know, thanks B. Could see it having an application for a hunting load, but think I'll just stick with H110. That stuff works.

Li'l Gun works great as a subsonic powder. In a 10.5" barrel:

-190gr boattail, CCI 450 and 8.3gr Li'l Gun = 1050FPS (I use Nosler Custom Competition)

-200gr Berry's plated 300blk, CCI 450 and 8.0gr Li'l Gun = 1000FPS (a cheap plinking load)
