One of my son's hunting partners called me asking if I would make up some reloads for his rifle in this caliber. He has a set of dies for it. I have not yet examined the rifle or dies and am looking for a bit more info on this before proceeding.
1.Is this a known /recognized wildcat cartridge?
2.What magnum case is it based on?
3.Info on case length and case forming if necessary?
4.Load data source for 165 and 180gr bullets?.
Thanks.

I assume what you are talking about is the 30 cal incarnation of the Imperial Magnums, a series of large capacity beltless magnums introduced a couple of decades ago. Offered in .308, .311, ,338, possibly a couple of others. They never enjoyed a lot of popularity, but were, as Jerry mentioned, very much like Remingtons Ultramags. I have a couple of cases at home, and will get back to you on similarity to the Ultramags. [wouldn't surprise me if you could make the Imperial magnum brass from Remington's offerings.] Regards, Eagleye.

I have one of the first 7mm imperial magnums. The Imperial/Canadian magnum line were built by NASS out of Osoyoos B.C. on the 404 Jeffrey case. They died quickly when Remington introduced the almost identical ultra mags.

300ultramag brass is longer to the shoulder than the Imperial/Canadian mag,and there are other smaller differences in dimensions.Unfortunately the 7mm Imperial mag is also longer to the shoulder than the 300 Imperial/Canadian mag,or I could provide you with some 7mm imperial brass to neck up.The person that knows the most about this cartridge is Aubrey White of Osoyoos. He shoots competitively with people from this forum.
