Can anyone tell what 30 caliber rifle could be used( if any) to rechambered to 300 H&H . This is just an idea I had while wondering, which classic caliber rifle, would be nice to have...something different! I don't hunt so it would be for target shooting .
Thanks

a friend of mine is going to have the same thing done by elwood epps using a p-17 in 30-06 300 H&H is about 4 thou bigger than the 30-06 there is enough metal in the barell to have it rechamberd safely , hope this helps

You cannot rechamber a 300 Win Mag to 300 H&H without setting the barrel back almost two inches. Most barels do not have enough meat over the chamber reinforce to do that. You could rebarrel to the H&H though.

However you can rechamber a 30-06 to 300 H&H, do the appropriate magazine and action alterations, and be in business!

I think Ted nailed it. A custom barrel would be the best solution in my opinion.

Gaillard and Smith are both top Canadian barrel makers. A P-14 action would already have the correct head size and the #### on closing feature is an advantage not a disadvantage. I would look for a long action Brno myself, as it would require less expensive finishing.

Look for a stock from a maker whose products grab your attention. I have a fondness for McMillan, but they are expensive, and there are Canadian stock makers who make equally good products.

Search out a good gunsmith to assemble all the pieces and cut the chamber. I expect your cost would be in the neighbourhood of $1500-$2500, and you would end up with a one of a kind rifle that is truly your own.

Contact SuperCub , he has one
So I do ..... brag, brag, brag :D

Check out the brass situation before going ahead with the conversion. It has been hard to get in the recent past. Most dealers are sold out right now in Canada and the US.

hey SC, that scope looks great on that rifle
Thanks .......... I swapped the mounts for a 2pc set. I used a set of Weaver steel bases and Burris Zs. Same scope though.

Those B&L Balvars are good scopes.

Thanks for the replies...I guess that a new barrel chambered in 300 H&H would be the best choice, but which action would work best lenght wise??? the mag lenght is not an issue because I would load it single shot any ways
Thanks again

Yuck :puke: A push feed , for a classic :onCrack:
So what? He said he was taking it to the range, not off to deepest, darkest, Africa to fight man-eating beasts. :)

Besides .......... IIRC your 375H&H is a 700 push feed too.

I used a pac-nor .300H&H Supermatch barrel on my last custom .300 H&H build. Worked really well, but there are cheaper alternatives for sure.

My present 300 H + H is a Winchester M-70 Classic--started as a 30-06--rechambered, bolt face opened, new mag box and follower, cut back and tweak on the bolt stop. If you search you can find FN Brownings, push feed M-70's and Rem 700 Classics in .300 H + H.
