.300 or .338......... RCM

Hello there an bare with me once again!
Some know I made a thread last week or so regarding the RCM, well a LH model has popped up an being a Lefty I might just buy it...

My question is, if you were to do the RCM thing, (it applies for WM also I guess) but which would you chose for Calibre....

Both are about Dead here in Aus anyway, but as spoken about, Dies an Cases an you're away!


On the RCM case, which would work better? 300 or 338?
interested in hearing your thoughts on this...

.338 RCM is the one I went for and I love it. I think the .300 is just another Short Mag and really isn't anything special but nobody else has chambered a .338 Short Mag. It's beyond me why Winchester came out with the .325 WSM instead of a .338 WSM. The RCM is the next best thing.
 
I would love a 338rcm if brass was more available (and more than hornady offering it). I really enjoyed my last 338-06 and the rcm is pretty much a short action 338-06. What's not to like?
 
I admit to not having experience loading them but I'd go 300 as I feel the 338 with heavy for caliber bullets might take up case volume. I may be completely wrong with this. If i was to go 338 It would be a wm or necked up 3006 case

I had a chance to shoot the 338 rcm and really liked it though

I was thinking the 300 moreso however the .338 is LH. an id be better off loading pointy projectiles in my Whelen for same if not better performance for much less hassle.

The .300 bein just another short mag kinda makes it very pointless to sell the wsm really.

I had a 338 RCM, I liked the cartridge and the original 20 inch barrelled rifle. Just too many issues with Ruger quality control, they couldn't or wouldn't replace the 20 inch rifle instead sent a 22 inch with no sights.
I kept the brass in case I get the urge to build one on a Remington.
 
I'd prefer the .338 over the 30 RCM version mainly cause I can toss a heftier boolit into
a critter, that cuts a bigger path, and is driven to a speed which will enable it to do the job
proper & not break up.:)
 
i have a 338 rcm and love it. now my go to moose gun in northern alberta. great to handle and plenty of ooomf for anything around here. but really just a great handling firearm
 
If your stuck on a RCM then id say 338.

Have you looked at a 338 Federal?? You can get them in ruger, tikka and sako rifles. Probably easier to find brass as all you need is 308 win brass and run them through your sizing die. the RCM puts out another 200 ft/lbs of energy and is a tad faster but not all that much from what I can see
 
Hey mate I actually just ended up trading my .300wsm Abolt for a Tikka T3 .308win, Figured the 308 is all I need and is one of the cheaper rounds to shoot often, will complement the 270 and 35whelen nicely!
