Looking for a scope for a 300 PRC. Will be used as a hybrid rifle (hunting & steel). Looking for something to get me 800m and further on steel but still work as a hunting rifle.

I was looking at the following:
NF NX8 4-32
MK 5hd 5-26
MK 4hd 4-24
Vortex razor gen 2 3.5-27

Looking for suggestions as I like the Leupolds but there seems do be a lot about reliability and durability issues so I’m on the fence

Current weight without optic is 8.7lbs loaded with bipod.

Yeah, those stories about the leupolds seem to be hit and miss. Anybody who tries to bring up the topic seems to get raked over the coals if they say anything bad about leupold, but mine broke the erectors on its first or second backpack hunt… and I know of a couple other guys who sold theirs and went with more rugged scopes like a nightforce after their leupolds did the same thing as mine.

I just bought a zeiss v4 for my next rifle that I don’t have yet. Cabelas has had some big sales on them recently. I went with a 4x16. It has a zero stop on the elevation turret and a capped windage turret that can be zeroed.

Im not a Leopold guy while great glass, Im just not a fan.
My top choices would be
4-16 atacr
2.5-20 nx8
both being a comfortable weight. Biggest thing you gotta decide is weight then go into all the other options you want and find
what will be best.
Budget and weight not an option 4-20 ZCO but it will cost and its a bit too heavy IMO.
Steiner makes great glass and has nice options as well.
MK 4hd 4-24 seems to be awesome however wont ever buy one.
a ton of guys love the razors and I think the love is deserved however way too heavy for my purpose.
for 800m I would say a solid 15x-18x is decent, Ive shot to that with my nxs 2.5-10 lots.
after a few matches this year with the nx8 20x I found myself going too far on the mag and not enjoying it as much.
However depends on your eyes some guys need it some dont, my eyes are crap so more is a bit better just not in last matches case.
Trijicon ten mile as well is a great choice.

As the previous fellow said Zeiss V6 3-18x50 is solid! If moa is your thing, I switched to mils so its not a consideration, however solid optic and wicked glass!

Personally im a MRAD guy so thats why I haven’t really looked into Zeiss.

I like the ATACR 4-16 and NX8 2.5-20 but if im going to shoot at steel beyond 800m I’ll want that 25x

I’m on the fence about weight. Is a 20oz heavier scope like the razor really going to make a difference on a magnum? Yes carrying it maybe but if I’m also going to shoot it at steel I probably won’t complain.

I have 2 NF NX8 in 2.5 x 20 x 50mm they are on my 6.5 PRC and my 7 PRC I have shot them both out to 1410 yards with no problem, 20X is lot's of magnification, given that they are both on rifles I use for hunting also I opted for the 2.5 on the low end for any close in work.

I think the Zeiss, NForce, and the one Sightron reticles with every Mil numbered is big advantage. My vortex is numbered every four moa and it takes more time to measure misses.
6-36. The weight doesn’t help. Not great in mirage or fog. It is good for shooting into a setting sun, cloudy days, twilight, trees/shadows.
I thought 36 would be an advantage from the bench. Can’t see much difference at 18 after four years with it. More is good for seeing 6mm hits on a plate at 1000.

Yeah Ive used that zeiss before and while great glass I was using MOA at the time. I since switched, and want everything to be the same.
Its just crazy to me that the razor is 15-20oz heavier, I just couldn't justify it. Ive also never personally used a new gen Razor but I know others who
Like them better than NF, I cant say Id agree but everyone's different.

like 97ultra said 4-32 has my interest for target shooting, I haven't checked it out yet however It seems decent. What about a 5-25?
5-25 always seems to be very popular.

I am very happy with a 4-16x50 PMII Schmidt Bender on my 300wm. The little extra weight and slightly higher mounted helps with improving COG position which makes the rifle easier to shoot. One of my favourite rifles at the moment. lovely to shoot. The single turn turret will get me out to 1200m with 208gr.

Take a look at the March optics. You will be surprised.

I run a ZCO on my hunting rifle so am aware of quality, and a March 4.5-28x 52 high master on a bench rifle. Currently looking at another march model for a single shot set up.

That said another contender is the leupold MK 5HD, or the stiener H6Xi.
